USB problem

I've recently purchased an H120 from Ebay , as is due to an Check HDD connection error , thought by simply puting a new drive it would work but no luck . The HD that came with that player was turned out to be 100% working after all but still gives the Check HDD error . Also , when I do get to the WPS or the file tree (stock firmware , no rockbox) , it goes in and out of USB mode like crazy . I can still go into USB mode when plugin the cable and copy files to the device . any ideas on how to fix it ?

Here's something to try for the USB looping problem. Get a mini USB/female USB adapter and wedge a PC hard-drive fixing screw in the left hand side as you look at it attached to the iRiver, shorting out those connections.

Works for me. You can then flash a new firmware and the problem might disappear. For me it came back again so I have the USB adapter permanently attached.

Sorry. I just don't get this...

.. you are trying to short out the connections to the USB (?) to solve the looping issue? What exactly does that do and why would it fix it? can you elaborate?

I devised my solution after reading about it here, related to the H320:

Fixed H320 Always connected prob

I think it's firmware related as I managed to reflash the firmware and
the USB Connect/Disconnect loop went away, but not this time unfortunately. It seems to be triggered by transferring recordings to my PC.

Actually, I have no real idea why it happens or why this fixes it. I RMA'd it to iRiver last year and will do so again before the warranty runs out.
