Two firmware upgrades for the ihp140?

I have the ihp140 and recently did the firmware upgrade. I went back to the iRiver downloads site today to see if any new ones were out and noticed that there are two different files for the 140.

One is named iHP140-factory(us).zip and the other is named iHP120-v140(us).zip

Is there a difference between the two?

BTW, here's the link: http://www.iriver.com/support/download.asp

Yes! There is a difference - look closely. One is for the iHP-140 and the other is for the iHP-120!

factory is the default firmware your iHP came with. in other words, the oldest firmware for the 140

sooo......which one should I use? Both of the files say V1.40(US).

The one that doesn't say factory is named iHP-120/140

The hex file that i upgraded with is named: ihp_120.hex

When I power up the unit, it displays: VER 1.40 U

Any thoughts?

i believe ihp-140 comes with the latestest firmware, which is 1.40, there hasnt been any firmware update after the release of 140

Actually, mine had firmware v1.19...or something like that. I don't really remember, but I do know that before the upgrade, it didn't have the study mode or the tuner region option. (not like i'll ever use either)

Have you upgraded yours? If so, what was the hex file named?

hum...if your 140 didnt had tuner region, im guessing your in europe, somewhere outside of USA?

if that's the case, i have no clue which firmware it comes with

back to the point, 1.40 is current the newest offical released firmware (except for korean's 1.50 beta, but the only thing new is new lyrics support)
US verson 140 comes with 1.40, so im guessing that's why it says "factory" on iriver's download page
US firmwares allow you to switch tuner region, it's nothing new. im guessing EU verson dosent allow that?

I'm not sure why you're asking this really. Installing iHP120 firmware on an iHP140 can't be a good idea surely? Or is it backwards compatible?

Use the second one. The 140 comes with version 1.19 in North America. I upgraded using the iHP120-v140(us).zip and all went well.

I bought from Amazon (USA) as well and my H140 came with 1.19. Both of those Firmware files mentioned above are the EXACT same file!! It doesn't matter which one you use. Just download both of them, unzip them, and compare file sizes and you will see that there is no difference AT ALL.

It never occured to me to check that out. I guess I'm good to go then. Just needed confirmation from someone else.

Thanks,

Erik

Nice to know. What did you do to compare the files?
