"Digital" - Line Out to Sony Dav S500 - set

Ok, I'm new here, but have extensively read the forum. This I know:

1) Flamegrilled will probably barf at this post
2) The line out on my H120 is not technically proper line out
3) The EQ and volume still affects line out vol, etc on my external amp

I am currently using a 3.5 mm to RCA Plugs adapter to connect my H120 to a Sony Dav S500 home theatre system (Input Right/Left jacks). All my music is VBR alt preset standard 128-320kps (so quality vs size is ok). The volume still needs real cranking on the Sony system.

So my question is this (or all of these):

1) Is there a way of using digital output from the H120 to the Sony?
2) If so, how do I do this (I'm not technically much of an audiophile!)?
3) Will the sound be better?

Any help much appreciated.

Fandang

FG will not barf....hard to do when you are choaking.

You can use the optical out from the H120 to the Sony if the amp has a optical input. You will need to get yourself a optical interconnect cable (it is a standard plug available at Rat Shack). You will also need to turn the optical output on. This is in the H120 NAV menu.

As to if it will sound better....who knows? Optical is less succeptable to distortion this I know but having never tried it I will let FG fill in the details.

Thanks seadzz.

The sony comes with optical digital input, optical digital out, 2 analog stereo inputs, 1 analog audio out. So I guess that makes sense. I'll have to look into the cable business (no Rat Shack here - I'm from across the pond in the UK).

Thanks.

yes i think the optical out sounds better ...also the vol does not affect the optical out so thats the best way to go ....it drains more power tho
