Battery time on using iHP has a hard drive, results here.

I thought you guys might want to share my findings on USB Hard Drive usage & it's drain on the battery.

I wanted to know, if without a AC source, how long my unit would last at a friends house if connecting via USB and doing some transfers.
This is not Lab standards by any means. But I wrote a script which did file transfers and recorded the start & end times until the iRiver unit died of power. This test was on my brand new iHP-140.

4MB file Write Test
-------------------
Copying a 4MB MP3 file from PC to iHP-140, each time was copied - file deleted from iHP and Repeated.

Results: 2 hrs, 58 mins

Large file Read Test
--------------------
Copying a 2.3GB file from the iHP-140 to the PC, each time was copied- file deleted from PC and repeated again.

Results: 2hrs 26 mins
==================== =

So you get roughly 2.5 - 3 hours if continous hard drive usage.
I've more tests to do, and if anyone has a test suggestion let me know.

Hope you found this as usefull as I did.

Thanks,
That's a good question actually. Mid test I checked and indeed it was quite hot - but I also have the new iSkin on my iHP-140 so that worried me about it over heating, but it seems to absorb the heat well.

I forgot to say, obviously my tests were done after a full charge, and the charge also took around 3 hours.
