Line out power

Right would I be right in saying that true line outs would have a power of 1Db?
If so what is the closest volume to the ihp for optimal line out?

Same question for optimal optical line out?

Also what cables would i meed for

1. Optical line in?
2. Optical line out?
3. Is it possible to have a optical out-to rca?

Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure about questions 1 and 2, but I don't think that you can have an optical out to RCA. Your better off getting a 3.5mm to RCA cable and using line-out. Just because if there is such a thing, by the time it'd get to the RCA, it would loose the digital quality of a pure optical out.

Not too sure of what the general dB rating is on standard line outs for such a device, but Ive seen that figure tossed around a lot, so let's say yes for arguments sake at this point until a definite answer is found.

AS for what the suppsoed optimal volume for the IHP's line out, that would be full volume. 40. I've heard many rumors which speculate the authenticity of the IHP's line out. Some say that the internal amp is only bypassed when you turn the volume to 40 because of digital attenuation factors. And yes, it's the same for optical. It's power and current we're talking about, which have nothing to do with how the signal is transmitted.

For optical outs, you'd need a tosslink cable, but of course you'd also have to have a digital/optical in on the other end, or else the point is moot. As dodge has already said, it would make no sense to go from optical out to RCA in because of the topology differences. When the signal reaches the input, the signal is gooing to be changed again.

Technically, the less changing that goes on, the better. Realize first that you can only get a pure digital/optical signal path if your input is a digital source. But yes, it is possible to have an optical out to RCA. Matter of fact, Radio Shack sells hybrid cables that go for like $40. They have optical ends, but with standard ends that are on top of them, and can be removed ...but stays in tact. Sort of like a transformer. I looked at their website, but it wasn't listed. I did see it in the store a couple weeks ago though.

Well I'll be ! The third one is the cable I was talking about. The first two are regular optical cables, just different lengths. The third is the hybrid. But again, you're really wasting money if you're not plugged into an optical input on your receiver. The fact that the signal comming out of the IHP being digital, makes no difference at all as soon as the signal hits the RCA end of it.

But it is a good cable to have I'd imagine. Saves the trouble of buying adapters and such. and ah, you can make a proper link by adding the following:

Name of Site or product here

P.S. This is all you really need if you don't have an optical in on your stereo

The page has no items on it, but if they're anything like the first 2 in the other post of yours, then yes.
