Is this typical of the adapters supplied by iRiver?
If I recall correctly, my original iRiver adapter did not indicate the company name or the iHP-1xx products. It seemed to be a "generic" adapter.

PowerMonkey charger

Interesting thread this.
In the UK at the moment there is a portable charger being quite heavily advertised. The Power Monkey: http://www.powermonkey.co.uk/
I emailed then regarding the H140 and they said that they 'thought' one of two tips might be compatible; the DC3.5 or DC2.3, but they weren't sure which. I havn't got any info on the polarity of these tips (the charger is a portable one with interchangable tips for different devices), but I note on their website that the DC2.5 tip is compatible with the iAudio X5!

This is a really neat little device and it would be wonderful if it could work with the H140. Does anyone here have any experience with this or, does anyone know if the iAudio X5 and the H140 are similar in any way regarding charging?

Cheers,
L

To to carry on with this...

Has anyone managed to source a PLUG to fit the ihp140?
- I have a PSP combined data/power lead which as prevously mentioned *nearly* fits.
- However i though i would canabilise it to work on the 140 by changing the plug over.

All i need now is somewhere (in the UK?) that sells the plug, maplin/rapid/farnnel or somthing. Not found anything yet? and thoughts?

i just recently lost my h120's charger somewhere during my trip to vegas last weekend and this thread helped me out a lot. i found my old (i don't know if they made other models, but this was the first one) TDK mojo mp3 cd player's ac adapter and the plug fit perfectly, the polarity matched what was stated in this thread, and it was 4.5V and 700mA. at first i was worried it wouldn't be enough to charge, but i tried it anyway and the green light comes on and the battery indicator in rockbox is moving. should work just fine, but i'll update if anything comes up.

thanks to everyone who contributed here, you've saved me the $11 for the cheap ebay replacement adapter..hehe.

OK sorry if this was posted, but I haven't got time to read the whole thread.

From my experience buying USB gadgets from Hong Kong on Ebay, the chargers typically supply standard USB juice (5V), and they seem to use exactly the same plug & polarity - it's probably a standard, or at least the cheapest way to do power (source the adapters etc). It obviously makes the power design simpler, especially if the gadget can already charge off USB. It also makes sense to have the center positive, as people are far less likely to short that out accidentally.

The generic 5V USB power supply that came with one of them worked on 3 out of 4 gadgets (the 4th, a 2.5" hard-drive based media player, requires slightly higher voltage (5.6V), but it's still the same plug/polarity).

Check out Ebay for USB chargers. Some just provide a USB socket - you can buy USB -> power connector cables (again tons from Hong Kong), I've got a retractable one - but some should also have the right connector.

power adapter for 2,5 inch HD

My 2,5 inch external HDs ( usually powered via USB, but with some PCs power may be too low and a power adapter may be required ) work perfectly well powered with my iHP 120 adapter, they also require 5V 2A and even use the same plug with the same polarity.

There must be 5V 2A power adapter sold to power external 2,5 inch or 1,8 inch HDs like the iHP 1xx use, they even already have the correct plug + polarity and should be just the thing an iHP1xx needs.
