Can I delete the firmware file from my player?
can I then delete the firmware file from my iHP-140, or must i keep it on the player? I upgrated my player yesterday and deleted then deleted the file. Afterwards when i tried to add/delete files on the player my computer restarted automaticly(?) I tried a couple of times and it continued to do so. Then i copied the firmware file back to the player, and now it seems like the problem is solved
And hi everyone - I'm new on these boards. I got my H140 4 days ago and I love it /Munke |

The firmware file serves no purpose once the firmware has been updated - check this has happened. It can be safely deleted once the firmware is updtaed. Try deleting it again and see what happens.

Welcome to the forum Munke!
Big D is 100% correct....you should be able to delet the hex file without worry. Also pitch the iRiver "catch the digital flow" soundtrack. Do remember that windows creates a recycle bin in the players directory. You will need to flush that out from time to time which will completely purge "deleted" files from the players HD. Enjoy your new player and please reveiw the FAQ section of this forum as it may save you some fustration with some of the more common issues\questions. sdz

My problem ain't over
Often when I connect my H140 to my computer, my computer still restarts by itself. Today it did so just when I connected it, but usually it's when I transfer files to the player. In the beginning I thought it was when I transfered too large amounts of files at one time, larger than the free space on my c-drive, but that doesn't seem to be the problem either. I have never discovered problems with any other kinds of portable harddiscs nor any other kinds of USB-storage medias... So now my focus is only on my H140, OR WHAT? Have you guys any other solutions to my problem? THX /Munke |

From my experience fixing pc's, usually that issue of sudden restarts is due to either a bad device driver (that causes a windows stop error) or it's because of a cheap/underpowered power supply. I recently upgrading my power supply from a cheap ($10US LOL) OEM 350W power supply to a 520W Vantec power supply, and it solved my sudden reboot issues.

Oh, restarts - I didn't realise you mean reboots by itself. I thought you were referring to the feature of some motherboards that wake up the PC when you connect or operate certain USB devices (mice, keyboards, etc). So ignore my comment

I'm assuming that you are running WinXP; if that's the case, try to disable automatic reboot when it crashes. You can find this setting by going to "Properties" of "My Computer", tab "Advanced", "Settings for startup" and remove that vink next to the option.
This way, you can see what "STOP"-code it's giving you and start a search for your problem of spontanious reboots.

Hey Munke,
I had very similar problems with windows xp, I tried re-installing my usb device drivers but nothing worked.. Mind you I don't have a h140 yet but the problem was associated with a motorola phone over USB. The only thing that I could do to fix the problem was installing the windows xp service pack 2 (it's in beta I think) After this my problems were solved. Cheers, Mick |

Okay, I have done as InsjaHH said, and now I get the blue screen with the following stop message:
WORKER_THREAD_RETURN ED_AT_BAD_IRQL STOP: 0X000000E1 (0X8054EF94,0X000000 02,0X819AC330,0X819A C330) |

I've done a Google search and found that one. It doesn't suggest any solutions, but I'm guessing (by the other search results) that it's something to do with your USB port(s). Which ports do you use, are they straight from your motherboard or is it an extra PCI USB card that you're using?
Perhaps try to get reinstall the USB drivers if that's the case. Perhaps it's corrupted by some installation. If it's the ports straight from your motherboard, try to reinstall / install the latest chipset drivers (depending which platform you're at, Intel or Via4in1 drivers). I hope I'm sending you in the right direction. Good luck and keep us informed.
