File Path too deep error on USB 2.0 card
Hi
I installed a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card on my laptop running Windows XP. The device is recognised absolutely fine but when I try to transfer files via drag and drop it hangs for about 3 minutes and then I get a Unable to transfer: File Path too deep error message. This normally means that the file path is longer than 255 chars, but they are only being copied from the root of the D drive (a hard drive) and when I transfer using the USB 1.1 port it works absolutely fine ! Anyone else come acroos this problem ? Any ideas what may fix it ? Thanks for any help David |

Did you look at your hardware profile tree to make sure the usb nub is seen as a high speed unit?
You might have to remove and reboot then reinstall and boot again. I had a little trouble with a 2.0 pci card upgrade in a PC several weeks ago. Problem was not exactly the same but when I looked at the hardware profile a yellow flag came up. sdz

ya i would try reinstalling...and if that doesnt work just return it and pick up another one...ipod users have firewire card problems all the time, its some kind of odd compatibility issue.

I had a hardware conflict problem with PCMCIA 2.0 card and Win XP Pro SP-1. The store told me that some PCMCIA cards may not be compatible with Service Pack 1. Obviously don't know if this is your problem but it sounds like to me it is a software issue. However trying another cable is simple enough..I always thought the data flow used the same wires in the cable, regardless of direction (PC-> unit or vice versa).
I am trying not to pay the $90 that IBM wants...the generic card that didn't work was only $25.
