ihp-140 case...horrible.

I got my 140 yesterday and, I'm sorry, but I absolutely HATE the case!!! The brown color horribly "uglifies" this sleek black machine. The sides are wide open and when you open the flap, the entire top half of the unit is exposed. Where's the protection?!?! And with the flap and belt clip, the unit is so much bulkier.

I had a 120 that I returned so I could get the 140...and the case was sooo much better. It was a tight black sleeve that protected the entire unit with holes for the buttons and a small area open for the headphone jack. No flap, no clip...slim, sleek, and well protected.

What was iRiver thinking when they designed this 70's safari case?!?!

Are there any other case options or possibilities? Will the 120 case fit the 140? Anyone want to trade? I have to do something about this case...I can't live with it. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

P.S. Besides this complaint, the 140 is otherwise great. $475 with overnight shipping from Comp-U-Plus. Just got it last night.

Subjectivity at its best. There's another thread discussing cases specifically, and it amuses me, how so many people have so many different opinions about which of the 3 cases they like. Personally, I have the one you seem to hate, and am loving it, I see your complaints though and would love to be able to remove the belt clip cause I never use it.

Yours has a belt clip ? I'll trad you...let me know

Do you have a dig camera ? I'd like to see pics of the belt clip and the flap close up. I'll do a search in the meantime.

I'm at work, Sweet. Digi-cam is at the house. Maybe I can take pics later.

I would be open for trading, but do you have the 120? Will that case fit the 140 with the extra width?

Feel free to e-mail me directly....

ya id be interested in it too...my only concern being that it might be a little too deep to securely hold the -120, as it is thicker to accomidate the -140

Mmmm yes the size. I forgot about that. It's already pretty snug with the 120. But looking at it while putting it in the case, where it starts to get snug is where the top half is, but it looks like there's a bit of room. Not much, but a drop. The leather does stretch so....Well look. If you get no other offers, mine stands. If you decide to try it and it doesn't fit, we'll just send each others back, with only the inconvenience of S&H. What...2 bucks ?

Can I assume that your case is in excellent condition? Where do you live? I am in CA.

Its condition is that of a new borns bottom sir.

My location is revealed under my Avatar. (NYC) I love Cali. My mother lived in Burlingame for many years. She'll most likely be moving back there when she retires. I may in fact be visiting SF pretty soon. Rob brings up a point though, which I'm wondering about. If the 140's case is that much bigger, the 120 will be floating around in it. What do you think about that ?

Ah ok...yes. By the way it looks from the pic though, it seems that when you lift the flap, there's no longer a plastic protection sheet. Is this true ? Is it ONLY on the flap ? If so, I'm not cool with that at all. In fact, I'd probably want to cut the whole flap right off. And those sides...hmm. Not much protection. These people are just not too bright IMO. All they had to do, was change the freekin belt loop, and nothing else ! What's their problem ??

The flap is now velcroed down, pretty sturdidly... basically, unless you want to take it out of the case or use the optical in/outs (line out as well) you don't open the flap. The protection has a small hole for the joystick to poke through.

As far as the side go, yeah, they are fairly exposed, I still dig the case though.

yes Sweet, when you open up the flap, there is no protection on the top half, but the flap doesn't have to be opened to access the joystick. The velcro keeps it tightly shut.

As far the size goes, I really had the wrestle this thing in the case and still couldn't get it to go in all the way. Being that it is so tight and that there is little size difference between the 120 and 140, I would think that the 120 would be ok in it.

I just hope that the 140 will be able to squeeze into the smaller case.

If anyone is up for exchanging cases to see how the fit is, let me know either on this post or at my e-mail I listed further up on this post.

If you're saying that you had to wrestle your IHP 140 in THAT case, then you may not be able to fit it in the 120's case at all. Sounds too risque to me. For the life of me, I can't figure out why Iriver would design the new cases the way they are. The flap adds bulk, the sides have no protection.....Stran ge.

From the look of it, it's almost more of a holster than a case.

Notice the belt clip rather than the loop on the 120

I am willing to pay the $$$. I just want a case that will protect my 140 for the long haul while adding minimal bulk to it.

I am moving back down to Central America and this thing will get scratched to pieces if I don't have it protected.

Don't make me get a zip-lock...
