Recording quality...
Hey all, I just got an iHP-120 a few weeks back. I mainly got it as an mp3 player to store all my music on, but I also chose it for its recording abilities. I go to a lot of shows and was looking to start recording them. I recorded my first show with the iHP-120 on New Years Eve, and the results were pretty surpising. I used a Sony ECM-DS70P mic, which isn't top of the line or anything, but the quality was amazing.
Here's a sample. I recorded directly to wav but converted this to mp3 to keep the file size down. Pops and clicks ARE there, I'm hoping that a firmware update will get rid of that problem. This is just a sample file for all of you wondering what the quality will be like at a show. http://s87359803.onlinehome.us/myfil...e-rwt-edit.mp3 |

Yesterday, i did some tests on the iHP, and all I discovered was that in wav format recording (with a microphone), there was a click when the HD spin up and stop...but this click was recorded by the microphone (the microphone was too sensible and it heard and recorded the noise of the iHP), it was not an internal click or noise. After, to be sure, i recorded some music in wave with the line in and I hadn't heard any noise (what a relief) I'll try this evening to record some music with the microphone covering the iHP with something to isolate its mechanical noises. And i'll give you the results. It would be strange that iriver guys let such a defect on this little jewel. |

Back from some tests, I don't know what to think at all. It looks like there is a small tick every time the disks spin up.
I think I hear it, but I can't really be sure this is not a mechanical noise of my dirty microphone. Strangely, with pure sounds recorded I can't see any cut in the signal (sinusoide). Could anybody try something more convincing than what I did ? What to do to get more precision about this ? |
