Remote control issues

Hello all,

I'm hunting around for an mp3 player and am interested in the H1xx / H3xx range.

I heard the H140 comes with a remote control, but that you can't plug L-shape headphone connectors into it. I can't understand how this can be the case... can anyone explain?

thanks,

If you simply use a short adaptor that is included with the H100s and available elsewhere, you can use any headphones.

So it's true that you can't plug *any* headphones in, unless you use this adaptor you mention?

Depends on the headphone. You can plug in /some/ right-angle head phones, some wont go.

All straight headphones go in no problem, and the crappy sonys I have at the minute go in ok too (theyre right angle)

the headphone jack is slightly sunk into the remote, so only long and thin plugs will work with the remote directly, but the player comes with a small cable (about 2"?) which extends the mini jack out and allowing any headphone connection.

I understand. It's not possible to open up the remote and then nudge the jack socket up by a couple of mm? I take it that the unit is "sealed"?

OR:: A new idea.... can't one just shave off some of the plastic from the headphone jack with a sharp knife? I shouldve thought that'd do the trick (if i've correctly understood what the problem is...)

That's exactly what some people do. Others spend tons of money on their headphones though, and don't wanna shave off anything.

Yes you could shave off some of the plastic, Ive considered doing this myself. I will probably do this if the new headphones I get dont fit.

My US version H340 did not come with this short extension; neither did the H100 series remote I bought off eBay. My local Radio Shack had nothing useful. Anyone have a link to something that works?

Shaving off plastic...

I just shaved off a little plastic from the remote, not my headphone plug. The socket in the remote is set in a small well. One side is almost open, I just removed the small amount of plastic that prevented my angle plug headphones from seating all the way. You really don't notice the plastic I removed and now all my headphones fit.
