That's not a bad price, still about £27 too much for me. What I found interesting is the price for the IHP-120 is around £280 inc vat & delivery, which is about £20 - £30 more that other places, which gives me some hope, that places like amazon might be able to sell the iHP-140 for around the £300 mark. Well probably wishful thinking on my part though I think £327 is a good price.

MP3Players say they will be getting stock soon, with a price of £380 inc VAT and delivery

http://www.mp3players.co.uk/site/uk/ihp140.html

However, the main thing to notice is that it is listed as being a black colour, so I guess iRiver really have adopted the black colour for all countries.

Wow that makes £327 sound even better, starting to wonder if porthole.co.uk have any in stock. The only negative is I have no idea how good a comany they are.

advancedmp3players.c o.uk are also quoting a price of £380 inc. delivery.

Link here

The iHP-120 at around £250 is looking a real bargain.

I'd advise anyone who can, to wait 3 months for the iHP-140 to really come down in price.

I've been keeping an eye on Porthale's price for a few days now to see if it's a mistake or one of those rollercoaster prices. Their site was misbehaving today so I emailed them to ask what was happening - they got back to me within a couple of hours - on a Sunday!

Fairly impressed, so I thought I'd give their order pages a go - ended up with a surprise 'Thank you for your order' after I went for cash on delivery!

I have been waiting for this machine, so will go ahead and see what happens - if it all goes wrong I'll just trek across London go see them.

I have decided to give them a whirl.

Haven't committed to anything by selecting COD.

Nothing to lose!!

Colchester are doing well in the FA Cup!!

I haven't dealt with COD before but it is significantly less risky than paying by card with a company I've not heard of.

They are quick at responding to emails so very happy with their communication. They have said that they want a cheque or bank transfer rather than COD in order to ship out a machine and predict availability in about 10 days.

They will replace a DOA machine, otherwise it's replacement/repairs under warranty. As there is no iRiver UK does anyone know how this works?

vyym, that last bit sounds strange. There is an iRiver UK, however they are not directly associated with iRiver, they're more of a company set-up to import official UK iRiver players and distribute them to the various retailers. I think they handle some of the returns/repairs though.

So anyone have any idea who else might deal with iRiver returns/repairs. Don't want to be left with an expensive paperweight. Might be worth considering the extra £50 for rather less quibblesome returns with other sites, though still impressed with Porthale's quick replies.

If you don't fancy using Porthale then why not get advancedmp3players.c o.uk or mp3players.co.uk to price mtach/beat? I am sure that someone mentions success with this on the iHP-120

EDIT - Just been on the mp3players.co.uk website and it is so easy to initiate a price beat that I've had a go myself. Will let you know when they email me back

ya tried that - won't match price sice Porthale don't have in stock - "we and another company will be the first to get these in stock..." - Porthale ain't the other one! Could wait until stock is in but risk of price changing. Decisions decisions

Someone on the iRiver interantional forums mentioned that they had some success using a BarclayCard to purchase their ihp-120, they purchased at 350 when it was first launched, and then applied to BarclayCard for a refund under their 60 day price protection policy when Amazon UK started selling it for 250.

Maybe that's an option for those who want to purchase from one of the better-known suppliers? (I certainly wish I had done that with my ihp-120)

Yeah just got this, DAMN!

"mp3players.co.u k - Price beat!

You asked us to beat the price for the iHP-140 - Black at
http://www.porthale.co.uk.

Unfortunately, we are unable to beat the Porthale price
for this product as they are currently out of stock. We cannot price
match against companies who don't have stock."

Funny thing is they will price match Amazon on the iHP-120 even though by all accounts you'll be lucky to get it from Amazon!!

Think Odie has come up with the best plan by far, though whether it's actually worth getting a Barclaycard JUST for this one purchase is a matter of opinion.

ok,
i hope i'm not out of line here, but i wondered if anyone had any views regarding the merits / downfalls of mp3.co.uk vs. advanced mp3.co.uk? they seem very similar to me.
i've waited long enough now (for the 140, having delayed getting a 120 months ago) and it's time to take the plunge. i dare say i'm paying £30 - £50 too much (i thought £350 would been a fair price)
anyway i've gathered that that both these companies are pretty good and never having heard of porthale i'd like to play it safe: but which should i go with?
i didn't particularly want to start a new thread in case one or other of these firms turns up a lot of moaning - leading to unavailability with the other site. (i'm sure i'm not the only person in this boat / ferry). as negativland once said....."shop as usual....and avoid panic buying."

I think this is probably what you should follow. If porthale can sell the ihp-140 at that price, then it's only a matter of time (days or weeks) before AMP and mp3p.co.uk will reduce their prices.

Like Odie said. You will almost certainly do better waiting a week or two. However I think you'd probably be ok with either AMP or mp3p.co.uk so if you get and/or use a Barclaycard then you'd be nicely covered and you'd have it sooner.

Just checked the price on Porthale.....its creeping up.

They're now selling the IHP-140 for £334.88 including VAT and delivery.

Only a small increase admittedly, but how does it affect people who have already ordered?

Porthale is now £329 inc. delivery and they say they should have it in stock today or tomorrow.

Actually spoke to two people on the phone and they seem pretty genuine.
