Question Charger: small dilema!

Hello again....
The 140 arrived, great. BUT it won't charge! No indicator light when connected to the mains for the first time. Power button does nothing, will not turn on (no.. the 'hold' isnt on). It aint the socket. There can't be any charge in the player as it wont turn on. No indicator light means it isn't charging.
Could it be the charger itself?
Am I an idiot, or am I about to be really bugged by having to send it back ??
Answers on a postcard please!
Marwood.

WAIT it's the charger!! The indicator light comes on when I use my Nokia phone charger. BUT is it safe to use? The iRiver charger has a 5 volt output, the Nokia is 5.7 volt output. Am I risking anything by carrying on, or should I stop now and wait for a replacement to be sent from those LOVELY, CARING and KIND people at advancemp3.
Please let me know what you all think. Cheers.

When the player is brand new, it has little or no power, in other words, not even enough to turn on. Try leaving it in the original charger for a couple hours, and check it every hour.

I would not suggest using another charger, especially with a higher voltage.

Stop

Nokia Chargers are certainly not suitable for charging your Iriver.... i have been researching them to make a portable cahrger for my phone, and they have charging circuits built in, to charge the fone, these vary the current etc so may blow ur iriver

Thanks jolt,
I reconnected the original charger to the player and the mains but no green indicator light. My dilema seems use the Nokia charger and get the player up and running or wait for a replacement from advancemp3. I know i'ts a risk, but you understand my problem. I could fall foul of warranty rules and regs or I suppose, damage the battery. Yet the temptation is strong and patience is not my greatest virtue! Damm!

It's only been on 3/4 of an hour, much less than that, and I'm pulling the plug NOW! Thank you for your profound advice!

Marwood.
