Menu Scrolling in the H series

Can I ask someone to tell me how menu scrolling is achived in the H series. I have an IMP550 and I assumed the menu system would be the same in the H series.

For example, does the H series have the annoying feature of using a bar for functions like minutes to sleep rather then an incressing number (why do they do this by the way?). Is the menu navigation the same (Root-Folder-Folder-...-Song file).

Also, on a slightly off topic moment here, if i use the dbase, how long can I expect the player to load with roughly 10,000 songs (I know, 9,999, also, will a frimware ever fix this, or is it a hardware problem)?

There's a bar and an increasing number. What annoys me is you can choose time elapsed or time remaining, but there's room for both. Where it says "Elapsed: 03:45" they could easily fit "03:45 of 04:12" or "03:45 + 0:27" or something that shows both.

56 seconds with about 6200 songs in about 350 folders, for about 29 gb of music.

not sure what you mean about menu scrolling. you click on a menu/submenu, and scroll up or down the list ...

Volume UP/DOWN scrolls, but too slow for long lists. A lot of possible options with the joystick can be utilized to improve scrolling... see my "Improved Long List Navigation" in the H-support section.

I love the sleep timer selection bar... I use it every night to fall asleep listening to music.

Yes, if you use the file browsing mode. You make your own structure.

The DB is sorted and structured in memory at startup, therefore the more songs, the longer DB startup time. It is not a hardware issue (the speed of the CPU is of course important, but a better solution is possible), since it can be optimized by save the structured lists an the harddisk and load them instead at start up. The would be much quicker.... but i don't think iRiver development partment thought about that ... so don't get your hopes too high on a DB startup time improvement.
