Fried H140-whats the damage likely 2 be?
Hi,
Was using universal charger - normally had it set to 5V but accidently switched it to 9V. Fried the H140. What is the damage likely to be? Anyone with past experience? Found a few threads where people did similar things, but none really specified what components were affected? Please point me to one that does if it exists already. Do the H140s have an internal fuse? Will the damage be limited to the battery (which I could then replace with the one from dapstore.com), or will the damage be more extensive - ie fried circuitry? Are iriver likely to RMA it? I heard iriveramerica are best 4 this, is this true? The warrenty is out of date. Thanks. |

From my limited experience of investigating a fried H140, the higher charger voltage fries a pair of capacitors that control the voltage supply to the CPU. This makes the voltage regulator give far too high voltage to the CPU (~3V instead of 1.8 ), frying the CPU in the process.
If your H140 is as damaged as mine, you can't fix it yourself. Better RMA it if you can.

Any more ideas?
Would another fried player (a.k.a. brick) like this help Rockbox? If RMA doesn't work, I might as well donate it. Would probably open it and mess around myself first, to see what shes made of, but then donate it at least temporarily. Would this be any good, or has it Rockbox progressed beyond the hardware stage of disecting fried players? |

If you RMA it, is there any hope of getting your files back? Or does iRiver just get you a new blank unit? I fried my 120, and I just want my music back.... |
