1.40 vs 1.63

Hey everyone, I just got my ihp-120 back from RMA land and i just upgraded to firmware 1.40 because that's the last one i was using. I remember when 1.60 came out, and a lot of people didn't like it and stayed with 1.40. . . is that still the case? How many people are using 1.63 over 1.40?

thanks!

It's newer, why not just upgrade?

The 1.63 package has features aimed at improving recording audio using the players mic and maybe line in. Since I do not use my H120 for recording there is no real reason to upgrade.

ymmv

1.6 has loads more bug fixes than 1.4

If you are finding the bugs a prob upgrade!!

See the iriver website for the differences and decide for urself which u prefer.

I see no reason not to upgrade?!?!? - can u explain y u do not wanna upgrade!!

1.65 is the one with the new recording features. 1.63 was just 1.60 with a new startup screen

there's nothing wrong with the firmware, it just didn't give people much of what they wanted.

I'm not sure about the other folks, but I never upgrade unless the firmware fixes a problem I am struggling with.

iRiver isn't that bad, but too many other devices I've had the firmware seemed to add more bugs than they took away.

The worst was when my Creative Nomad hung halfway through a firmware update. That had to be RMA'd.

When they add gapless or a random shuffle I will likely not be able to resist. Until then my H120 works great as is.

exactly. when it first came out there were complaints and people reverting to 1.40. so i never upgraded. i was just checking in months later to see if the opinions had changed, that's all.

I can confirm that "upgrading" isn't always upgrading at all.
v165 is not better than v163.
It's meant to be better for recording but it isn't.
You lose your settings each time you stop recording.
The glitch is still there.
Two of my recordings won't even play back and are corrupted files.

I've gone back to v163 (which i do think is better than 140 but can't remember that far back).

i like 1.60 better than 1.40, as 1.60 has OTF delete and OTF format, which is good if you can't connect to the computer for some reason (formatting, that is).

It also has "Gapless" playback (which isn't really gapless), and playback speed adjustment, which NO ONE asked for, and NO ONE uses (except when i'm really bored and i start fiddling around with the settings on my player)

That's great if you have an H1xx, but for iHP-1xx owners, 1.60 is the way to go. Of course, for those who are 'in the know' modifying the graphics is the only way to go...

Have used 1.65 and seems fine but I can't compare to the others cos I aint used em.
Hey swimdude, I can see a use for playback speed adj. The guitarist in our band used to learn his bits for covers by slowing down solos etc.. he swore by the walkman-thing he used. It gave him confidence in what he was going to play and suited his obssesive nature. I wasn't complaining, I needed his confidence cos I had to sing the dreadful rubbish!
BUT my playback speed adj doesn't seem to work. I'm using it on WMA @192. Does it only work on other files like WAVs or am I being daft as a brush?
Cheers,
M.
