Want my player to show up in windows media player

I am running the latest version of windows media player. In the copy to device window i can not get my iHP-120 to show up. There is a link to supported players to download the driver but unfortunately ours is not on there. Is there any kind of free plug in to get this to work. I can even get my sony camera to show up and copy songs to the memory stick, so there must be something out there to make it work with the iHP. thanks

Hi Fntsygmr,
Our player is recognized as a HD removable (this feature is also called UMS for Universal Media Storage)...
So no need to donwload anything for WMP: just check the HD drive location corresponding to the iHP...
Things cannot be more simple in fact!!!

Bye

I understand that this can be done and is how i transfer much of my music. I agree that since it is a UMS it should show up without any other plug in.....but it doesn't. Possibly due to the fact that it is a hard drive rather than a flash memory? All i get as options to copy to are my CD-RW and a link to supported players. Unfortunately the iHP is not currently supported. So my problem remains. I know that WMP is not all too popular to many people here but I could really use this functionality right now. thanks for your replys

I know that WMP will work with ifp series products since there is a link on MS goodies page on where to get the driver. I would suspect that in a short time that the H series is also (like it or not) directly compatible with MS WMP.

You may be aware that several months back iRiver and MS tied up on some sort of agreement. It is very possible that something similar to iTunes is in the works.

Expect it sooner rather than later.

Just had a look at the add a device page for media player and there is a link for the iHP -100 and 120 but the tag says not currently unavialable. They must be planning something though.

It seems there is some good and bad about using iRiver products with WMP. looks like the ifp series will now work with WMP and will allow you to play songs downloaded from pay-as-you-go websites. HOWEVER these tracks will have DRM added to the track. Here is a blurb from iRiver:

"Windows Media Player (WMP) controls the licensing to music purchased from download services. Every song purchased has a set of licenses dictating how that song may be used (how many copies can be made, how many times it can be burned, how may times it can be transferred to a portable device, etc.) WMP keeps track of this license and only WMP can allow songs to be transferred to an iRiver player"

Not the most wonderful tradeoff just to beable to use WMP.

Can you get rid of the DRM infomation by re-encoding to a different format? I've not purchased any music online annd seeing as there is no such limit on CD music, I can't see myself doing so for a while.

You can get rid of it by burning it then ripping. But you're gonna lose quality.
