Bad H120 Remote

I never had any problems with my H120 player. Then just today when I
plugged my headphones into the remote control headphone jack I could
only hear my music in certain channels and the VOCALS were reduced
significantly. I then tried the radio and the radio reception was shot also,
each set station was not clear and was full of interference. So I tried my
headphones on another player and they were fine.

I disconnected the remote control from my H120 and plugged
Headphones directly to headphone jack on the player, and then
the music sounded fine. I plugged in the remote to the H120, then my
headphones to the remote control and it all sounded like crap again.
Thus leading me to believe that my Remote Control just crapped out.

Lots of people have posted here that they don't even use their remotes
and it is still in the plastic, wanna help out a fellow MisticRiver member
and give me your remote?
Tomorrow I have to call iRiverAmerica
and see if they will replace my crapped out remote control unit.

Has this happened to anybody else? My H120 Player and Remote are in
MINT condition, I have babied the player nicely and then the remote craps
out only after approximately 100 days of usage. That SUXS!

That symtom is of a "out of phase" error, sounds almost like the jack plug isn't all the way into the socket, maybe a connection problem.

When my remote failed (back light didn't work), the UK repair company (CMS) just sent me a new remote - so I have a spare one, sorry I won't part with it since I'm gonna buy a H340 which I can use my spare remote with!

Meantime, you are entitled to get a replacement since it's failed within 12 months of use.

I hope that it isn't a problem with the jack on my player, I don't want to part with my H120 for an extended period of time, the remote I can learn to live without for a while. When I plug the remote all the way into the H120 the audio VOCALS get echo-y and softer and I loose some audio channels of the music I am listening to. And the radio reception is crap.

I just tried the Radio function with just my headphones plugged into the H120 and it sounds fine. Without the remote control the radio sounded fine. It is only when the remote is plugged firmly all the way into the H120 when the problems appear. When I have the remote plugged in the display is still lit and displays the information but it sounds horrible.

RB, when you used the remote, were you using the short headphone connector cable supplied? If so, and all connections were fully in then it sounds like you need a new remote but make sure you try the connector first with all jacks pushed fully in as they can be difficult at times. If its still fubar then iRiverAmerica or the original supplier should be able to get a new one to you.

No I never had to use the earphone extension cable.

Yes I know how the audio sounds like when you don't have your headphones plugged in all the way in. But my remote and headphones are securly inserted. POS Remote! The Remote is fubar. It is pushed in all the way.

Has this happened to anybody else?

Thanks!

iRiver America replaced my remote in 2 days flat (mailing both ways incuded), for free, when I had recent problems with the remote in the first 3 months. I suspect that minimal flexing of the cable that goes into the neck that connects to the player caused some wires to become stressed/broken (even though the remote seems designed to allow flexing).

Just to tell you what happened. I called iRiverAmerica Tech Support, and I have had my player for over 90 days now, so the remote control was not covered by warranty.

I placed an order for a new Remote Contol, and tech support said that if the problem is with the input jacks on the player itself (and not a faulty remote contol,) they will reimburse me for the remote control and fix my player as it is still under warranty (but not the accessories which only carry a 90 day warranty: Remote Contol, Leather Case, Battery.)

Subtotal $34.99
Sales Tax $0.00
Shipping $6.04
Order Total $41.03

*YIKES!*

Thanks.

I recieved my Remote Control today. I plugged it into my H120 and the Remote Control was the problem, and my new one is working like a charm.

I am planning on opening up my original remote to see if I can find any unsoldered lines/joints/etc. but I have no experience in doing so.

The coolest thing about the iRiver Harddrive players is the Lit LCD Remote Control, but does it seem like most people are having the most problem with theirs breaking down or having problems in general with their remote controls (crappy manufacturing?) This is disturbing.

Thanks!
