iriver clix 2 charging problems

My wife's clix2 has not been keeping a charge. I changed the settings on the player's "power off setting" being in "sleep" mode. To Settings > Advanced > Power Off Type > Power Off in attempt of correcting and preserve battery life. Now the unit keeps saying say's "Shutting down" but then it just keeps rebooting and not turn off. What can we do to fix this issue?
