Weird Damage

Hi,

I have a 4GB 1st generation Iriver clix. Everything with it was fine until a few days ago. I had the usb cable plugged into it, and when I tried to remove it, it was stuck in one corner. So I thought one of the metal bits on the cable may have become misaligned and caught, and a applied a bit of force to remove it. No damage to the player itself, maybe a slight bit to the cable connector on the clix and the cable itself.

Now, it won't turn on at all when its not plugged into the computer, and when I attach it by cable, the "low battery" screen comes on followed by the "charging" screen. But when I try to turn it on while connected up, it just flashes low battery again, and starts charging again! And no matter how long I leave it apparently charging for, it won't turn on when I disconnect it, and after I reconnect it the same thing happens: it says its got a low battery and begins to "charge" again.

I know for a fact that it was charged up anyway before the cable got stuck, the only reason I connected it was to add some music. So basically, somehow because of this cable geting stuck and pulled out it has discharged an already charged battery, and the battery no longer charges!

Anyone heard of anything like this before? Its out of warranty, so I'm unsure if I should bother trying to get a new battery put in (if the battery is even the problem, I don't see how it could be), or send it to Iriver for repair and pay for it etc etc.

Any advice? Cheers.

Maybe something got shorted and fried when the connector got stuck?

Thats what I'm worried about. The odd thing is that the screen still comes on etc so I'm not sure whether the damage is critical or not. Its basically a case of either the cable is broken and so can't charge it properly, or the battery has been killed off somehow, or else the player itself is dead.

Theres a big difference in cost as to solutions to each of those problems and I don't want to have to splash a lot of cash on a nice new Clix gen 2! Which is why I am looking for advice before I invest/waste money on a new battery or cable.

Is it possible for me to replace the battery myself?
