OGG electrical distortion on Clix2

I've been a happy user of Clix Gen1 for more than a year. I've been solely using OGGs (aotuv-b5) as these sound just great and conversation from FLACs is about 60x real-time when using the Lancer 20061110 build Ogg Vorbis Ogg Vorbis ‚‘¬‰»ƒvƒƒWƒFƒNƒg In addition, I am able to sync the album art with MediaMonkey 2 on Clix Gen1.

Then I upgraded to Gen2 for better video support and themes when my troubles began with OGG. Neither MediaMonkey 2 or the new version 3 is able to sync album art of OGGs.

My real issue with OGG on Clix Gen2 is the electrical distortion in the background. During regular playback, I cannot notice it easily but it is evident in the quieter parts. I'm using the same OGGs that I've been using on my Clix Gen1 (even my IFP-790 plays them just fine) , so I know that the files are properly encoded. For troubleshooting purposes, I used the official OGG encoder at different quality settings but the results were the same.

As a last resort, I encoded the same FLACs into MP3 and the problem was gone! IMO, this problem has nothing to do with the DAC on my Clix, the OGG decoder is to blame.

I'm using the latest 1.17 fw (tried both MTP and UMS modes). My headphones are Shure E4c (also tried Sennheiser PX-100).

Hello,

I'm having the same issue with my T60, nothing we can help trouble shoot, It just firmware issue We have already addressed it with our engineering dept and hoping for firmware updated to remedy the problem.

Regards,

CS team
UPDATE: I have tried all firmwares from 1.02 to 1.17 and the distortion with OGGs is there! I've searched for the same problem in other forums as well, clixhere and abi, but never stumbled upon a relevant issue. At least the iRiver customer service admits that it's an already addressed problem...

Is there any progress? Do newer firmware versions solve this problem?

I ask this because being able to use OGG Vorbis is one of the main reasons for considering a Clix2...

I also complained to iriver about Ogg Vorbis decoder noise around the same time as fehmi, but as yet there isn't a released fix, and no sign I've seen that they are doing anything about it. In the meantime I have learnt to live with the noise (which isn't severe), because I still prefer Vorbis to MP3, even with a bit of extra hiss. I don't regret buying the clix 2 (it's a great player), although I'd like to know if there is a better option for playing Oggs.
