Clix2 and AVI / MPEG4-SP & all that

Hello,

I have a question to the video playback of the clix2. I read in the specs. that the clix2 supports MPEG4-SP. DivX and Xvid are MPEG4-SP codecs, so it is possible to play DivX and Xvid files on the clix2?

Thanks,
BlackHole

I'm not the most knowlegable about codecs and what-not.
But it's easy for me just to use iriverter to convert (using the custom clix2 profile).
Join over at clixhere and do a search for more info.

Actually, they are not.

Divx and Xvid are MPEG4 codec that support the SP profile (in this case, Simple Profile @ level 3). Most Divx and Xvid video you will find in the wild are in normal MPEG4 codec, not MPEG4-SP.

Ah, OK. But it is possible that when I create my own Xvids from a source, I can make them In that way that the clix2 (or an arbitrary MPEG4-SP player) can play them?

Most Xvid and DivX files will be MPEG-4 ASP (Advanced Simple Profile). I believe they can encode MPEG-4 SP files using the options like clieos said (though I haven't ever tried to encode anything SP).

You can specify in Divx / Xvid setting so the output files are alway MP4-SP. Encoder such as iriverter will do just that automatically when you select the correct player profile.
