OGG, Database, and Me....

Hello,

I got the Clix 8GB Red Line today, and I'm loving it so far. One problem I'm running into is music transfer. When I drag and drop (copy and paste more like it) my music over, all my songs are listed as unknown. Even if I rebuild the database, they are all listed unknown. Now the odd thing is, if I used iRiver Plus 3 to transfer or rebuild the database, the tags come out right. Why can't the unit its self rebuild it's own database to make them work? All my songs were OGG with one MP3. The tags do work 100% because VLC and FooBar2000 both read them great. Also, I have the newest firmware of v1.15 too. This is very odd because I will not always be using Windows to transfer my music, so I don't want to use iRiver Plus to much. I also have a sample of a song if you wish to test it your self.....

Thanks!
Jason

I have seen both side of the argument: The choice is between PC-build-database and device-build-database. If you go to the X series forum, you will find a few threads complaining how X20 (which builds its own database quite often) takes too long for startup. If you have 8GB of music that require a database rebuild every time you start your clix2 up, I doubt you will be happy with it anymore (which is why a PC based software is used).

If you change the settings in your clix2 to use MTP instead of UMS/MSC, then maybe it will work with linux. Amarok and others claims to support MTP through the library libmtp.

Does anyone know if EasyPmp supports Clix2 yet? Actually i think that it supports clix2, and that clix2 has the same database format as e10, since iriver plus 3 supports it.

EasyPmp is available for both Windows and Gnu/Linux. It works well.

amarok with libmtp works OK. It updates the on-board db for both OGG and MP3 files. There are still issues with libmpt such that you often have to try several times to load a file (with newest libmtp).
