Question Problems with Clix

I have a problem, I hope someone can help. I know this is long winded but I’m trying to be clear.
When I connect my clix to my pc (OS xp pro sp2, MP10, 2ghz processor), Windows recognizes the hardware found as iriver clix (the icon appears in the system tray for a moment), thats fine. When I want to disconnect the clix, there is no “Safely Remove Hardware” icon in the system tray and as I said the iriver icon only stays for a moment ( 5 seconds or so) If I go into “My Computer” icon, iriver icon is there. Right clicking on it doesn’t give me any options to remove it safely and if I just disconnect the usb from my pc and re connect it to the pc, Windows now doesn’t recognize it, and a message comes up saying the “usb device has malfunctioned”, “try reconnecting the device. If Windows still does not recognize it, replace the device”, when I try again Windows doesn’t recognise that I have connected anything however the clix lcd shows usb connected. I did a system restore to an earlier time. That doesn’t seemed to work either. In “Device Manager” on pc it is not recognizing that it is there. The only way for Windows to recognize it again I have to press the “reset” button on the iriver. Any advice?

Clix (1st gen) is in MTP mode only, and doesn't require any safe remove as long as there is no file being transfer at the time. It will not display as a driver in your 'device manager' no matter how hard you try. Backup your files by copy and paste, update to the latest firmware and format before sunc. Upgrade to WMP11 is strongly recommended.

Hi clieos, thanks for replying. Just to clear a few things up. I believe I have firmware 200(us), which I believe is the latest firmware. If I format the iriver, do I then have to download an iriver os to run on the clix? or will that put the player back to it's "new" state? Can you tell me why windows first recognizes the device as an iriver, and then when I disconnect and reattach it doesn't recognize it ? Sorry if these questions seem stupid

Formating your clix only clean away all the files on it, and the internal database. The firmware (OS) will still be there after the format and you don't need to reload it.

As of your problem, it is most likely the MTP driver in your system is corrupted. This usually can be easily fixed by uninstalled the old WMP than installing a fresh copy of WMP (in your case, just install WMP11). Although less likely, it can also be that the USB port isn't receiving enough power, or there is a hardware/software problem with your clix (which is why I asked you to format your clix).

If those files look fine on WMP: Make sure you got the latest firmware, backup, format, reload, check it again.
