clix2 gapless

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find it.

Sooo.... does the clix2 support gapless playback? Was there some firmware update that added this feature? I've been reading various places where some say yes and some say no. Getting confused, and would like to clear that up here.

Thanks in advance!

I am sure it does support gapless, but it is called 'Skip-free listening' by iriver. You probably need to enable it in some setting.

wat's skip-free listening? I sometimes listen to these non-stop megamix trance albums, and most mp3 players I've had got the annoying 1/2 a second pause between songs. So far only the latest ipods do not have this gap, but i'm looking for an alternative to ipod.

As far as I know gapless and skip-free have not been intergrated with the clix2.
You could email iriver support and ask about it though.

some time ago it was a default limitation of the mp3 format itself.

I don't know whether this changed by now - but did you try ogg vorbis instead?

100% correct Gapless depends on the firmware and later versions of LAME mp3 codec (from ver 3.90 onwards). Gapless mp3 can be achieved on earlier mp3 codecs, but this wont be 100% and still depends on the firmware. Sadly not many manufacturers seem to be interested in gapless playback, The Karma did this out the box, as did Some of the first generation DAP's, Rockbox does playback 100% mp3 gapless on its supported DAP's if encoded with LAME. The Trekstor Vibez also does gapless due to them porting the Karmas firmware. itunes also does galpess, and I have no idea how that does it....

irivers gap defeat is not the same as Gapless, way back when the H140's were released lots of petitions were drawn up and sent to iriver, we suspect that they misunderstood what was meant by the "Gapless" request in the petitions and provided us with gap delete in subsequent firmware upgrades.

ogg vorbis supports gapless? what's the downside? is the sound quality worse/better?

where you been..., there's been a recent ragin debate going on right here at mistic about Vorbis vs mp3, and there has in the past been debates about Vorbis vs mp3, google will really help you out tons here, I typed in "Vorbis vs mp3" and got some nice hits, try "is mp3 better than Vorbis" as well.

Edit: Vorbis/Ogg is like LAME mp3 with regards to gapless, the info for gapless is there but it depends on the firmware/software that is going to decode it to ensure that playback is gapless, same same really.

Well actually Gapless playback is in the spec of Vorbis, while is not in the specifications of mp3.

Anyway there is not quality loss using gapless with vorbis (Indeed I use vorbis mainly because it has more feature, like this, and I prefer to have to deal with only one codec)
