Custom CLIX driver/hack?!

Hey guys.
Just wondering..is anyone on this forum intro reverse engineering or something similar?

Just wanted to ask if "extra functionality" could be added to the CLIX..
For example, could a custom driver be designed so that is sends(or accepts) input to/from the CLIX?
As an example: let's say I want to use the CLIX to control my computer's directional keys.

I saw that you can mod the cable so you can use the CLIX while connected to the computer.Maybe a FW mod of some sort is possible.

Any ideeas are welcomed...anyone tried/succeded something similar?

Thanks

There's not much hope. To make Clix accept a new/modded firmware you have to create a perfect HEX file. And that file is encrypted...

The Rockbox team has decrypted one type of HEX file. So it's possible to decrypt firmware for E10, S10 and some old models called "IFP". Decrypt, but not encrypt. (Though, some smart hackers at Rockbox has actually modded one firmware for one IFP player, and been able to execute their own executable code with that FW. )

Now iriver is using a new encryption key. I think i once tried to decrypt a Clix FW, and an U10 FW, and got nothing but rubbish out of the decrypter.

Oh I see..
Would be nice of the iRiver team if they would let some old stuff leak .I wouldn't mind using a old FW if it would be kind of opensource or something.
They should take ID Software's example, almost every game they made eventually got released as opensource(Quake series...Doom...Wolf enstein..but that's the Q3 engine etc)

So..any other fun I can have with the CLIX, HW-wise then? The only thing I found was the cable mod. Anyone working on something else(not necesarelly as usefull as the cable one )

BTW..the HEX file contains the flash interface right?
But that flash part has to be run by something inside the device. It must have a bootloader or something.
Anyway to access that part..atleast for reading?

No, the HEX file contains the whole firmware. But inside the firmware is one flash interface (a so called theme). In e10 this is the theme Basic.

Actually the Clix FW decrypts fine. I was wrong. But the Clix2 doesnt work.

I could give you instructions on how to decrypt FW if you ask.

Thanks for the offer, but I think that wouldn't be much help. I got the 2G MTP version..so no UMS<>MTP conversion.I guess I have no chance in writing a .HEX to the device even if I can decrypt/modify it.
I will be getting the clix2 at some point, and 'til then maybe the FW can be decrypted.

Thanks

IMO the clix2 doesn't need anything extra. The interface is fully customizable, can be MTP or UMS, as well as all the other great stuff. The only thing I don't think it has is FLAC support but these flash players have so little storage I doubt anybody would use that.

Oh..Don't get me wrong.I am very pleased with my CLIX and I know CLIX2 is really all that I could need.I just want to do this stuff out of...well..let's say curiosity.
I like messing around with stuff like this. And the custom FW part really intrigues me.
I did see that RockBox stuff and it's really amasing...
I think it runs gameboy games..that would really be something worth having

Theres a Pokemon game that works with clix, its exactly like the gameboy version except only gives you one battle or something.

Not a big fan of Pokemon, but i'd give that a try.Care to provide a link if you have one please?.
I have over 100 games on my CLIX and I still haven't played most of them(I got them from this forum I think).
Also..offtopic..I do flash..I might provide some games this summer ..just need to get some free time.

Cheers

Thanks.Looks good..but I can't understand the text
I think a mario clone would be great. But no luck in finding such game made in flash.Just some little demos...

EDIT: I found a Flash mario that looks good, but it requires clicks in the main menu.I'll try to decompile it..hope I can recompile back.Even if it works..I bet it's gonna be way laggy
I'm also working on a Pacman game I found.I got it to work on the clix, but it's laggy.I need to optimize a bit..hope I can do it an release it sometime soon.
