firmware is basically a software upgrade for your DAP fixing a few errors or something like that.

Firmware is the OS used in devices, all DAPs have firmwares. Your clix already has a firmware in it, it wouldn't work without it.

It might need to be updated though, fixing bugs, adding new ones along with new features

What firmware version do you have? Is it a 2 or 4 gb clix?

The newest firmware for the 2gb clix is version 2.01 and for the 4gb it's the 2.00 version

If you have a tape deck, use the adapter. The FM transmitters are more expensive and usually have weird feedback and static.

DEFINITELY the cassette tape adapter. I have to use the FM transmitter in my car because I don't have a tape player, and it has a lot of static, not to mention you have to constantly surf for "blank" channels on a long road trip.

2.01 is on the firmware link on the iRiver site. It says it's 1.11, but it's really 2.01.

Nope that's all you need, just plug that into your headphone jack and go nuts!

An auxiliary input will usually be a set of audio input plugs in the back of your stereo (red and white plug that says something like input next to it). If you have those, you can run a plug that converts rca plugs into a headphone jack (mine was 9 bucks at best buy). It's much better quality if you have the know how to do it.

I've always preferred the FM transmitter to the cassette adaptors. The adaptors sound worse to me and eventually crap out or start to make mechanical noise.

If you plan to use the auxiliary input on your car stereo (if it has one), all you need is a Y-cable (3.5mm stereo plug to RCA) for connecting the stereo and your clix...and a place to link the cable from the back of the stereo to the front.

I'm new to iriver - have just order a clix2 4gb. Want it to play audible books. Can I use the cassette adapter along with a usb charger in the cig lighter and play and charge in my car at the same time?
