I have your problem! I actually run a similar system; Kubuntu Feisty Fawn using libmtp 0.1.3, udev 108, Amarok 1.4.7 using Firmware 1.14. I can do UMS just fine but MTP gives me a brief message of "USB Connected - MTP" then tells me "OK to disconnect". $ mtp-detect No MTP devices. No devices. If I can provide more information, just ask! I really want this to work... EDIT: I was searching around and found this bug report which mentions a possible cause (lsusb did reveal iRiver in MTP mode for me) and a possible solution. I'm going to try to nab libmtp 0.2.1 and see if that fixes anything. Last edited by NickPresta : August 31st, 2007 at 01:45 AM. |

Sorry for not being able to get to you earlier, the version of libmtp you are using is rather old. You may try building the upstream source or see if there's a new version in the Ubuntu testing repos.

I just checked http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/ and yes, 0.1.3 is quite old. I can't wait until Gutsy is out for 0.2.1 so I compiled libmtp myself. mtp-* commands work fine but Amarok 1.4.7 included with Feisty was built with libmtp5 so I would have to recompile Amarok (and I'm not in the mood for that right now) so I'm going to use the various mtp-* commands to transfer files and images and such.
40 minutes later EDIT: Even with automation, it's far too annoying to use mtp-* to transfer files, create folders and attach thumbnails. It's far easier and less stressful to use UMS mode for now. In October, when I upgrade to Gutsy, I will start using MTP mode. Thanks for all the help and this is a great guide. |
