I was in a strange mood the other day and decided to call iRiver america and ask if they had plans on coming out with a higher capacity version. The guy sounded surprisingly annoyed at my question (he may get it a lot, but do you have any idea how much money companies usually pay to get this kind of feedback from people in the market), but he said that these players (1 gb, 2 gb) were actually made a while ago and iRiver is just trying to sell them. The impression I got from this is that this is something that was manfactured a long time ago and they just waited a while to put it out on the market for a reason I can't come up with. Hopefully they are just trying to "make room" for a higher capacity line. Interesting little story I just thought I'd share.

o sorry i meant the storage size... lol... whoops. Like I said, other than the shinyness of the screen, its really easy to watch video, read text, look at the pictures... just make sure you have a cloth on you to wipe those fingerprints.

btw I thought that the U10 has gapless, when I was listening to some music, it went almost directly to the next song(there was some silence after the song) and after months of listening with a gap I was amazed. Of course I don't have anything that requires gapless so I can't be certain and the plastic case that the U10 shipped in says skip-free listening. Anyway, if there was a gap it is very small

Well, iRiver America has been known to have some really bad customer service. and maybe the time reference is off. For example he thinks that made a while ago was 6 months ago while you think the while ago is 1 year ago.

Ever heard Brandy's '' 'Almost' Doesn't Count '' ?

Lol. Skip-free listening is in specific reference to the player being flash-based, in that the U10 has no moving parts, so there should be no skipping/jumping in sound whilst playing your MP3's

Completely unrelated to gapless

lol I'm stupid. I just figured with the technology these days that the standard is skip-free and they really don't say that anymore. This is my first portable music player I bought in about 3-4 years.

mp3players.com now say January - as expected.

But then a month later the larger models, so it would seem more sensible to wait untill then, although they will probably be pushed back a couple months too.

Damn Iriver. Damnit. might have to switch to the iAudio U3. Hopefully not though.

Welcome to MisticRiver Dexter Yout !

Unfortunately, that is the 1GB version. The 2GB can be bought (as a combo with the dock) for £205 (from MX2.co.uk)

Fair enough.

Even if you can't wait 'til January, the 1GB combo is still 30 quid cheaper

Can someone answer these questions?

1. Is scrolling through a long list of songs fast? Like the current H10s.
2. How is the battery life so far?
3. For text scrolling is it like the H10? It would only go so far to show the title then goes backwards back to original position. Are there settings are that?
4. For those who own H10 and U10, does it have all the nice features as the H10?

Thanks.

wel, i really can't compare to the h10

1. scrolling for the first part is pretty slow. First there is a slow one by one scroll downwards. Then after a bit of holding down only one songs shows up and the scroll speed is much faster

2. the battery life is really great, I haven't charged it for 3 days now using it off and on around a total of 5-7 hours of various music, video, text and pictures and it is still showing all 3 batteries bar. The official site says 5 hrs for video and I believe it.

3. text is showing one page at a time or autoscroll. And i really don't kno what you are talking about.

4. I think the U10 has all the features of the H10, but U10 has line in only if you have the cradle.(don't kno if the H10 has line in.) Has music, recording(voice and fm), fm radio, video, text, pictures and flash games.

There is a SuperScroll - i.e. it gets progressively faster the longer you hold 'down'. The H10 is as fast as your finger/thumb allows, I guess

AFAIK, it is like the H10 in that respect.

It has all the features of the H10, and then some

doomlord,

if the name of the artist is too long to fit on one line, does it scroll, or does it use more than one line? Thanks....
