NO DISC Error
Have previously posted on this -
iMP 550 problems I recently took out my imp 550 to give to my son (stupidly perhaps hoping that a long rest might have helped!). Anyway, problem persists 1. Audio CDs play perfectly 2. MP3 CD show a NO DISC error 3. Firmware Upgare CD shows a NO DISC error I presume that if the laser is the problem, it should not be able to read any disc. I have checked batteries for swelling and they appear OK (again, presume if they were the problem, an audio cd would experience the sme problem). Has anyone else come across this laetly and found a solution?

I had the same no disc error on mu 550. I read some post where people would manually move the laser head a few steps back and they pop a cd in and it would read (this didn't work for me)
My only option was to RMA the player. |

Try different types of cds
pressed cds (=audio-cds) usually work without problems self-burned cds depend on model/manufacturer e.g.: * verbatim ultra-scratch-proof 700mb in a 100box: no chance * tdk 700mb, 50box: works most of the time * tdk 800mb in jewelcase, 1x-40x, 10pack: best i've ever had! but such lists are in fact useless since the production can chance every day, and also does very often. Just give it a try, ask some friends to share g ralph |

Hello,
I have got a similar problem with "no disc". My player sort of degraded over time, and now after 22 months of use refuses to read any CD. (In fact, three days ago was the last one...) [Note: and as the behavior (regarding the loud noises it makes) does not differ if I do not insert a disc, I expect the laser to be defective] Unfortunately, I am a (post-grad) student and in Germany right now - and as the imp-550 is discontinued I am not able to get a spare one here... And iRiverAmerica will not (under any circumstances, they say) ship one over here... Is there anyone who could kind of "relay" one to me? Of course, I'd cover the shipping.. Please PM me for details... Thanks in advance! Kind regards, Dominic |

Hi everyone!
I posted earlyer that I had the same problem as you guys. Well I made my loved imp 550 word again yes, it can read cd-s again. Its been working for two months already (use it for about 10-12 hours a week)!!! So what I did : I took it apart, and tweaked the laser diode. As I said I took it apart and and took the laser pickup out, on the bottom side of it there is a potmeter its small, trimmer it is called. Well I turned it clockwise with a 1/4-th turn ,and it worked... for one day. I think it was too much! The I took it apart again a turned it counter-clockwise with a 1/8 this time. Just to clear it for everyone, from the postion it was in when I first opened it it tured only for 1/8-th clockwise!!! And it works ever since! Good Luck! |
