The iMP-550 is going... Here comes iHP-120.

Ok I am deciding to leave the CD Player and go for the iHP-120. I really do love my iMP-550 and how it performs, but I just can't get over the advantages of a Hard Drive Player. I am going to save the money from the iMP-550 for an iHP-120. It is in the classifieds right now. I am selling it for $250 Shipped with Extras. Please take a look. Also for some reason the pictures that I am tryin to upload isn't working. Could someone explain why the pictures aren't working? They are JPEG pictures. Well take a look and email with any questions at Lsportline43@hotmail .com.

Hey another Connecticuter! Sounds like a good deal, but trust me, having a HD MP3 player is much better than carrying the CD player and tons of CD's. I remember the days of carrying millions of CD's and such.

Like to have extra stuff. Just in case. Also you go crazy when you have Christmas money if you know what I mean. That was when I first learned about iRiver.

LET ME WARN YOU I HOPE IN ADVANCE OF YOUR PURCHSE!!! Ok, well I was in the same boat, I had a 550 and I went for a H140, now I am very happy with my decision, and yes, the advantages are numerous (like being able to do away with my 25 CDs in place of one small box) but there are issues with the H1x series that are not on the 550. Firstly, the sound quality is not nearly as good. Sound volume is good, but either the hardware or software is not as good. The H1x series software does not support the fully customisable EQ like the 550, and only bass and trebble can be changed. Also, the menu is alot ugiler and alot less easy to use. The H1x does not allow you to view tag info the way you can on the 550 (as in artist-album-title etc) and the hardware menu is not as easy or good. The H1x does not have or support an true ext bat pack (although you can make or buy your own battery DC power source) and the unit can take a good while to load, esp with the database function on. Also, you may notice the remote can cause a clicking noise.

Ok, now that I've said all that I would still say to you make the change. The H1x is a better unit, it has the major advantage of allowing you to hold everything in one place and you don't need to buy any more CDs obviously. I just wanted to warn you that in many regards, the H1x is not as quality as the 550 and there are many things which will slightly disapoint you.

It is certainly NOT discontinued!! ANd I agree with you jon, it is WAY too expensive!
I got mine in canadian currency for the SAME price (shipping & handling and taxes included) he's askin' for. Mine was brand NEW and hand-delivered the next day right to my door.. and of course, all equiped!

To munkifisht, Personnally, I wouldn't trade sound quality and EQ for a bigger HD that holds more songs.. what's the use of having more if it sounds worse? I also use the AC adapter everyday at home....

I don't know what you people are on about here, but I personally think he made a really good decision. I don't have a 550, but I do have a 350. Man, I really loved that thing back in the day. I didn't go anywhere without it. I had it strapped to my body like 24/7, and the remote always near by. However, I found that the constant need to replace discs and the sheer bulk of the player was enough of an inconvenience to make me switch to a HD player.

There's a lot of misinformation in this thread regarding the 120. For one, there IS an external battery pack you can use, and not just some home made ones. There are plenty of accessories, also including a battery which lasts about 26 hours ! Als0, Andrew, how is it that you have to charge your IHP every day ? Do you actually listen to the thing for 12-16 hours straight ? How is that possible unless you travel by plane all day long every day ? And what bitrate are your files ?

As for sound quality, I do agree that there is a difference. The DAC's are of a different class, as well as the amps being of different power ratings seemingly. However, I don't feel that the sound quality on the IHP is bad at all. On the contrary, I think it's much better than 98% of the DAP's I tried when buying. The DAP which comes closest in sound quality to the IMP's is the Creative Nomad JB3. True, the EQ leaves a bit to be desired, but I've found a very happy medium for most of my music, especially since I ripped most of it.

Now, the best thing about your new DAP, is that when the Rockbox boys finish porting their firmware for it, you'll have a completely different DAP all together ! The software features will be rich beyond belief. Gapless playback (real, not crossfeed hack), lossless playback (monkey/flac) wavpack &musepack support; OTF playlisting and much more. Sorry, but with the advantages this has over any CD player, it's hard for me to imagine going back to one for any reason at all.

Just my 1 1/2 c
