What new features does this player offer? Apart from the new remote which looks a lot nice rthan the old one and has headphones coming out of the opposite end rather than the same end!

Does anyone know when its expected to be released?

Well, i have had to return my imp-550 due to faults and will hopefully have the imp-900 by the end of the week to replace it, so ive been looking at whats different, so far -

100hours playback (we'll see.....)
16mwx2 @ 16 ohms output as opposed to the imp-550s 12mw
User eq/extreme goes up to +15db rather than +12db on the imp-550

I dont know whether its do with the player having less memory or just how it has been implemented but its 'cd-esp' is 40/160sec (same as imp-450) rather than the imp-550's 80/320sec protection.

Ill probably review the player / against the imp-550 when i get it

Just got my iMP 900, and I am extremely pleased with it so far. The sound quality is excellent for a player of this type, it feels sturdy and I haven't found any firmware bugs yet. The carry case is very smart and the whole thing feels like it was designed with care and attention to detail. I like the remote and learnt all the controls within an hour. As for the spec', most sites have it is 100+ hours (with battery pack) It's actually 120+, according to the box. The whole thing is black (no silver edge on the top as in some pictures). The Korean website has the most up to date spec’, if you can read it! As we all know, the stock earphones that come with them are just that, stock earphones. I didn't even bother to unwrap them. It sounds very nice with my e2c's and my various beyerdynamic and Sennheiser cans. I personally don’t like the Xtreme 3D equaliser as it makes a terrible mess of the soundstage in my opinion. Have tested it with ‘Dark side of the Moon’, ‘Venus Isle’, ‘Pyromania’, 'Going for the one (Re-master)’ ‘The Extremist’ and ‘The Planets’. If you don’t have any of these albums, you need them! More when I can be bothered, but great, love it already. Make sure the shock protection is on 40secs, not 160secs, as you can imagine it compresses the music and as a result it looses the detail and dynamics, which is the reason I bought the iMP in the first place. I could go on and use lots of fancy audio terminology to describe the sound, but there’s no point, for a portable CD player, I think it sounds amazing. Please tell me if you agree with my points - or not, being 15 I am used to being put to rights, all the time. BTW, my parents just LOVE my new subwoofer

Sonic, does the case come with a belt loop/ clip that can be attached/unattached WITHOUT taking the belt off, on the 550 you have to take the belt off :/

Also any OGG support? No biggie if no but it'd still be nice.

man i read on japan them site that ogg is supported.or it will be later with firmare upgrade.also what i like is that(i do not own one yet)imp 900 is made aldo by magnesium.thats very god against scraching.out put is more powerfull the 550.16 mw-12 mw.this i think is the best from iRiver when is about price -quality.i cannot read japanese..but also comes a future of a password on your 900.thas nice.who have one alread please tell us how long is the playback with internal batteries.thanks..an d which are the difference between 550 and 900.and this is also smaller:128x13,5x13, 7 but is 160,and 550 is only 145.that doesnt matter.also i love his shape .this it really make it unique.and 32 minute anti skip is more then enough.is the radio fm both bands?63.2-108 mhz?

Yes I thought I was going to buy a DAP but the imp-900 looks so great, the new remote design looks FANTASTIC

man be carefull.do not look olny at the boda shape.future...and sound and battery life is a good way to think.iriver is the best..so imp 900 is the best in my opinion price-and what u get
i do not know too much about 1100
so please who own a imp 1100 give a review over here to your brothers.

yeah i know, im just commenting. i've already got the 550 so i know how good it is but it's screwing up on audio cd's a lot atm

i dont think anyone has a 1100. Only get a 1100 if you are interested in videos.

yeah u kinda right man.i defennly i will get imp 900 if i will make sure that the remote is well made.and is the internal batterie offer a playback over 25h.and ma friend about imp 1100 is arealdy for sale in Germany.i think that the new upgreade of imp 1100 will allow video clips.i am not sure.

Sorry I didn't get back earlier. Yes, you do have to take the belt on and off to take the carrying case off (its probably stronger like that, but sill a pain). The remote is really nice and it feels sturdy, will it last? Only time will tell but it seems very solid and I'm not worried. I got mine from advancedmp3players.c o.uk for £119 (ask them if they can price match Amazon's £109, I forgot!) Please, don't order this one from Amazon, they have so many orders it will take months to get one. I waited so long I gave up. The last thing I heard was 4-6 weeks minimum. I asked someone who has seen and used the 1100 and apparently its not that good. From what I know, I’d give it a miss until it is updated. Back to the 900, the battery life without the external pack (4 AA's) is only 30 hours I think (probably a bit less, you know how it is). It's around 120 with the battery pack. For me, the internal batteries will get me through the day and I just charge it when I get home. If I were going on holiday or staying away for ages, I would take the battery pack and some spares or rechargeable batteries so this is not really an issue. Honestly, charge it overnight... it will last all of your waking hours, without caffeine! Just plug in the wire! Not seen the 550 but its the same depth looking at the spec and all I can say is the 900 is very small and light. You'll love it. It's only a bit more than the 550 but from what I have read of the 550, the 900 seems much better. The warranty last 2 years an advancedmp3players will either fix it or replace it for you in that time.

On an unrelated note, got to powerballs.com, take a look, then go the Play.com (best price) and buy one. I can’t stress how good they are. The Neon looks amazing but the 250 is faster, so exerts more force. I have both. Really, get one!

Anyway, exam revision. If I have time I will review the 900...

I don't read all tread, byt i see nobody have iRiver iMP-1100, so i decided to post this small review.

iMP is realy good player, but in that model i have, there is no FM-tuner
Player realy play 15 hours in MP3 and up to 10 hours when i use CD with video clips and MP3. In Russian (Yes, I am from Russian ) many films was published unlegaly by payrats on CD in DivX. For this reason i decide it buy iMP-1100 But only new films encoded in DivX 5 and looks great and on TV, and on build in screen. But 'resolution limit' and/or 'Bitrate limit' for old DivX 3.11 are real trouble if i try to play some old video. If it is video clip, it is easy to reencode it by iRiver Media Converter, but reecoding of film take some hours and it is not good

Player don't play any of OGG file. May be support of this format will be add in the next firmware?

Many video, that i download from internet are in mpeg 1 or 2. But iRiver ignore this files at all May be and this wll be add in future...

Resume: This is good player, but iRiver's programmers must work hard on it's firmware!
