ifp790 jumps to 1st file/folder on resume

Recently, my otherwise fine IFP790 starting doing something weird. AFter pressing stop, pressing it again (to resume) jumps to beginning of first song in first folder (same as when I disconnect USB). only thing that's different is that It's full (used to be no more than 85% full).

I'm thinking maybe
1) make it less full
2) format
3) (scary, but) reflash the firmware.

or is it a HW thing?

any thoughts?
