I dont know about all this complaining, all I know is I own a ifp-890, (soon to get an ifp-895), and I use firmware version 1.85 UMS. It shows up as a USB drive. I can sync with WMP11. All my MP3 files are encoded at simple, 320kbps (CBR?) that are ripped from retail cds. I use WMP11 to rip them. With Sony Headphones, the sound quality is AMAZING.

Download the 1.85 firmware and put the hex file on the root folder of your player. Open you player, go in general settings and select fw upgrade.
