ifp 890 japan vs. us, buzz at 44khz

I have 4 ifp players that I use mostly as recorders. I have on 895 that is 512Mb, US model, one 890 US model and two 890 japanese models. When I record in voice using 44khz the japanese models record a distinct electrical-sounding buzz. The US models definitely do not do this. When i record using 22khz on the Japanese models, there is no buzz but there is one using 32 khz. The buzz is present (or not) regardless of bit rate and whether or not things are plugged into the jacks. I upgraded one of the Japanese machines to the latest firmware 1.75, no change. I was not able to upgrade the firmware using the US version. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I just bought a used
- IFP-890T/EU (256MB) Firmware v1.24

and have experienced a buzzing in
- Mono, 44kHz, 160kbps, AGC On

The buzz seems to cycle every 11-12seconds building up, before silencing, and repeating.

I still love this little unit! I recorded the same meeting with my new X20. No comparison, the IFP reigns supreme in voice recording!

edit: OK the joy has tarnished slightly more, the buzz is present in all frequencies except 12kHz for me. The buzz is "quick" at 44kHz, and sounds like it progressively slows down as lowering the frequency... until 12kHz you lose the buzz, along with all the quality of the higher sampling rates. buzz.

japanese or US?

When you turn off the player, you get a brief flash of something that says (in my case) japan or us. Which one do you have? I would really like to know! Thanks..

You'll love this reply, neither!
It i "IFP-890T/EU" suggesting a european market designation?

I did a 27minute test record about 30cm in front of a PA speaker, with AGC on, 12kHz sampling, 64kbps, internal speaker (mono) and it came out very well!

I'm actually happy enough with the fault not showing up at 12kHz and 64kbps I get 8.5hrs of record time on the 256MB version.
