Exclamation HELP, I think I did a "no no" ???

OK I have an IFP799,

I wanted to try itunes and wmp, so I changed to UMS Firmware. I wasn't to happy with this, and I wanted to go back, but I couldn't remember how to get the old firware back on.... I should have read these forums first.....
I got to menu on the player that allowed me to Format the player.... I did this.
Then I found the menu that said "upgrade firmware" and I selected this without being having the HEX file in the "root" directory.....
thinking that I messed up, I pulled the battery on the "UPGRADING FIRMWARE" screen.
Now the player won't start on its own. When I power it up, all that it does is flash on and off with the message , "SCAN MUSIC FILE ..."
My computer still recognizes it as a mass storage device, but I don't know how to fix it...

Any ideas??

Thanks

Simply try to download the firmware hexx file and if you say your device can connectr to the pc wack it on and have a go at that. See if it makes a difference..

You may have to play around a bit with bootloaders though.

What's a boot loader?

I've already tried to put the HEX file in the root directory, but not of the buttons are responsive..... just the flashing "scan music file..."

I think I may have crashed the firmware

show hidden files/ folders and see if you see a folder names sytem files or any hidden folder for that matter. if you do whats it called. Unfortunately I don't have a IFP799.
But it's a start.

if you are using windows. Open mass storage device. Then in the bar of the file, tools, folder options, view then check view all hidden.

format it using windows. then try placing the hex file back into the root. see if it boots up. Make sure it is the origional hexx firmware that you had not the one you tried to update with.

Formatted,
then put original HEX file on player... I am assuming that "root directory" just means not to put it in a folder.
Player is still giving me the flashing screen on boot up.....

Again on tools folder options view do you have the option to view syste files and folders? If so make sure it is ticked. I am unsure if there is a recovery tool avaliable for IFP799. I will have a look.

try downloading this and running it.

"IFP-7XXT.HEX" and the VOICE and RECORD folders....

You have to format the player again and then try to put the hex file in the root directory.

Talking I Got It!

Hey, I've been struggling with the same issue -- and I figured it out!

!!!These are instructions for the iFP-790T!!!

Yes, format the unit (FAT, complete fomat, not "quick")
Upload the firmware into the root directory.
Unplug the USB cable
The unit will re-start
Press the toggle to get to the file listing.
Press and HOLD the toggle -- you will see a menu that includes, among other things, a "General" selection.
Under that is "Default" -- select that, which will get you to Upgrade F/W

That's it! The device will upgrade, format, and intialize, then you're ready to go!

Thanks,
But "when I press the toggle," the unit does not respond.... it just keeps flashing the "scan music file screen"
It does not respond to any input whatsoever....

KILLERKASPER - thanks for your guidance on this thread. I locked up my ifp-799 good the other day, and I was experiencing similar problems. I didn't know whether upgrading the firmware was the solution, but I didn't know what else to do. After formatting the drive and putting the hex file in the root folder I was able to upgrade and now things are working right again!

I do have to ask, though, what exactly is the use of the link you posted. I downloaded that file and got the IFP700.inf and Ifp700.sys files, but I wasn't sure where to put them. I put them in the root directory at the same time I put the hex file there, but I don't know what purpose that served, if any.

Thanks again!
