UMS firmware of iFP-700/800 is now available

"UMS firmware of iFP-700/800 is now available at our DOWNLOAD section.
UMS (USB Mass Storage) firmware enables you to use your iFP player as a hard drive.

This firmware is an Alpha version that means it is not the final formal version.

There may be many bugs that have not been found yet. There will be also improvements of functions and options to beta version.

Windows 98 SE/ME doesn't recognize this version of firmware. If your system is Windows 98 SE/ME, do not upgrade."

New UMS Firmware For iFP-700/800 Series

Well iRiver came through with the UMS firmware for the iFP-700/800 Series. It's still on beta though. It was expected in September and well it's out on time. Now what is going on with the H series firmware.....

yeah, cuz there's no UMS product or firmware that can be recognized by Win98/ME without a driver

Exclamation Wait for Beta

The specific instructions appear to be off on a few points. If you can actually use your player without UMS, I would suggest waiting for at least the beta. (I can't, so I won't.)

Points to note:

Documentation varies in a few points from the actuality. This suggests that the documentation was written against a later (or at least different) build of the firmware. So anything in the documentation is suspect. Known diffs:

* Says that the display will say "transferring... " when transferring files. It doesn't.

* Says that the firmware will create "VOICE and TUNER" folders on restart; they're actually called "VOICE" and "RECORD". Not sure yet if you can add preset files.

Generally:

* UMS install instructions are not very clear. Read them carefully -- don't wing it. Looks as though you can really back yourself into a corner if you're not careful.

* Transfer is VERY SLOW -- 96Kbps max.

Good luck, folks.
