Whaa? Can't transfer mp3 files to pc??
I can't find a way to transfer mp3 files from my ifp-899 to my laptop. At best I get an 'Cannot upload audio type file' error message. The manual says mp3 files can't be sent to a pc, but that seems dumb. I tried changing the file extension but it wouldn't stay renamed. Am I missing something? Is there a work around? I want to keep the Music Manager software, not because I like it, but because I don't want the compromises that come with ditching it. Thanks

with the iRiver MusicManager there is no chance to copy back your mp3s,oggs,wmas!
...the only thing i've heard is a plugin vor TotalCommander (!) try search function

Yes, I noticed this also. That's really a shame.
This is why I wish to upgrade the firmware that came with my iFP799 to something newer so I don't have to use iRiver's interface ( it's old anyway, goes back to 2004 ? ( version 3.17 ) ( how come there is no software for 2006 ?? ) |

iriver Music Manager 3.17 is the latest one, and there will be no newer version - now there is iriver Plus (as manager for T, H and N series players)... incompatibile with iFP series...
and you already know about plugin for TotalCommander, which allows to copy MP3 and WMA files when player has IMM aka Manager firmware (there is no restriction for OGG files)

Hey....that plugin works really great, for so long ive been tryin to find a way to transfer music from my player back into my computer. Still, i just have a question: suppose i were to install the ums firmware, i wouldn't be able to use imm. But, is there any way to change it back to the previous settings so i could use imm again?
thanx |

yes... "just" update player with (any version of) IMM firmware, like you are going to do with UMS firmware now
:] any "conversion" need player's format: - IMM->UMS - via My Computer - UMS->IMM - via iriver Music Manager

Hi Jeff,
ah ok ... I also wondered this.... that if you updated your firmware to a newer version, that later on if you wish to revert to an earlier firmware version, that it would work... so to this is indeed possible ? very good to know. ( If I understood your answer correctly ) so if you have your original firmware on the player, update to a newer version, and then decided it is not for you, you may go back to your original firmware by just re-installing it..... ( ? ) thanks for your time. |

you can install ANY firmware (a HEX file) for your player, that you can download from here: http://www.iriver.com/html/support/su_index.asp ...
if you can find "original" firmware, then you can install it as well as any newer firmware...

rename them so that have "normal" names with latin letters (any ie. "blabla.mp3" or "xadasqeas.mp3") and then copy/move/delete
and in the future do not use chinese characters in filenames but in tags...
