ifp 795 probelm with hardware connection & now player firmware

I got an ifp 795 which works great for my recordiing tasks.

But I can't get my Windows XP to recognise the device when it is attached except through the iRiver Music Manager program. But then the program suddenly stops recognising the 795 player and I've had to re-install from go to woe.

I thought these probelm could be a product of the frimware so I clicked through an upgrade and the upgrade wiped my iRiver of all its stuff so that now when I turn it on I get "NO FILE" and the options of one folder "ROOT" with tow subs: "VOICE " & "RECORD". --no other screens, no options no nuthin!!!

And it will no longer work!

I got a half dead device that won;'t record or play or anything. BUT NOW it will sign on with the Music Manager as soon as I click it into the USB port. Fat lot of good that does me though!

What on earth has happened? What have I done wrong! THe other iRivers we own are a dream. This model is something else alltogether.

Please help me....

Fixed

I fixed up my problem with the firmware -- how confusing! But the coputer still won;lt recognise the hardware outside the Music Manager.

But if you have esperience the T30 series of iRivers you get a feel for how bad this software is with the ifp. As a recorder the ifp -- despite its funny business -- is great. But I'd never use it as a player when other models are on offer.
