Unhappy HELP! - "Blacked out" display on NEW iFP

I've just bought my dad an iFP-395T for his birthday, with which he was delighted (impressive since he's 57, so a bit older than the typical user!).

At least he was delighted, until he came top power it up only to watch as the screen came up and gradually increased in contrast until it was all just black - and therefore unreadable and so unuseable!

I had a look at the unit and assumed the contrast was set too high, this wasn't the case however (I managed once, to get to the display menu to change it before it went black again).

I also tried a firmware update. This went fine but didn't solve the problem either.

The player seems to work fine otherwise, since it interfaces fine with the computer and I can play the "digital flow" tune.

I've already made arrangements to send the unit back, but wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

Cheers.

ND (personally a proud iHP-140 owner )

upgrade the firmware

turn it on and hook up to the computer. Does it do that? Try to upgrade the firmware.
What happens when you do that?
