Cool ifp-790 driver

Neither Windows XP nor Me recognize my ifp-790. I get 'cannot connect' msg on PC although 790 window shows connect. Tried re-load of driver from install disk, got 'can't find' msg etc. Also did device manager/USB controller thing w/o success. ??????

Are you using the iRiver Music Manager program to connect to the player? If you want to use the iFP just as a generic UMS drive, you'll have to install the UMS firmware onto the player first.

If the above is not the issue, try rebooting XP while the iFP is connected to the USB port and see if it's detected after XP has booted up.

It seems like it wants USB 2.0. Do you know if your PC is older and only using USB 1.1 ports? If so, you can buy a PCI card with USB 2.0 for next to nothing.

I'm here, desperately in need of help, totally stupid and trying to simply connect my iriver 790 (yes, I do have the USB connected) to my PC. One of those wonderful situations where I bought the 790 from eBay "AS IS", meaning no CD. The firmware link to iRiver gives me a .hex file, which is essentially useless to me. And yes, I do have the Music Manager software installed. If I could ONLY GET MY SYSTEM to recognize what's connected to the "unknown device" plugged into my USB port. HELP. This really sucks.

Maybe your player doesn't work since when you install Iriver Music Manager, the driver for your player is also installed.
