Exclamation ifp 790 firmware upgrade
Help, I need to be able to use my ifp 790 as an UMS device but when I download the hex file from the iriver site it unzips as a xxx.hex file instead of the xxxt.hex file, the upgrade manager won't recognise it and therefor I am unable to change from manager to UMS, can anyone help with what I'm doing wrong or does anyone have the right firmware.

Maybe upgrade your Music Manager?

Version 3.16 supports xxx.hex. Have had no problem loading the UMS firmware on my iFP-780.

Please I'm newbe on Iriver owners, What the diference between ums and normal upgrade? anyone Iriver ifp 790 may be upgraded by both without issues?
I can upgrade with ums and if I dont like it I can turn back the normal upgrade without issues?

With the UMS you can use the iFP as a USB drive - no special software is required. Main disadvantage of the UMS is that it prevents you from recording at maximum quality, but the lower quality may not bother you.

You can switch back and forth between UMS and Music Manager firmware, but each time you switch, all your music is erased.

If you are a Total Commander user, you can use the same software interface to access both firmwares (requires a iFP extension for the MM firmware).

HI Levinel, Thx for explanation, I'm glad that you had pacience to explain to a newbie how that things works, just one more doubt!
What's (requires a iFP extension for the MM firmware).does it mean?

and my IFP 790 was manufactured in China, I can to download the firmware from USA or anyone language? or it doesnt matter?

it doesn't really matter which firmware to download, I have the japanese firmware (for the 76.0 fm just in case) on mine and I can change language back to english

just if you get the EU firmware it has a volume cap

The normal way to connect to an iFP (non-UMS) is with the iRiver Music Manager.

But if you have the Total Commander shareware, plus a small freeware addition (the iFP "extension"), you can connect without using the Music Manager. (TC can connect to many different things via these extensions.)

Thx to Levinel and AW614

for all atettion and explanation, but the official site of Iriver its too much confuse each visit I do I find another firmware, now apear ones like 1.65v, its a joke no?

For it too much users (owners) are confuse and always make the same questions,
But I beg you when you have a time put in here the path for two firmware, usm and manager, and when someone wants to download the correct ones they just click and right catch it!

hey, i was checking around but coud not find anything much about UMS.

I understand that it makes my iriver work just like a flashstick and that woud be lovely.. i coud not find that UMS firmware on iriver´s homepage anyother place i can find it?

Wink UMS and Manager

Já fiz atualização de firmware para 1.65, depois para 1.85 e acabei retornando para 1.65, pois achei muito cômodo poder usar o Music Manager para converter .rec para .mp3, além de programar as estações de FM pelo computador.

O iFP-790 possiu recursos fantásticos. Qualquer dúvida, se eu puder auxiliar, escreva-me.
