iFP 799 won't turn on
I am having an issue with my iFP 799.
The player suddenly stopped working, The screen is blank and will not power on. The hold button is not engaged, and the battery is fresh. Additionally, the player will not power on when connected via usb. Perhaps is there a master reset button? I have tried leaving the battery out overnight, however it still would not power on in the morning. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Not sure if this is the same problem, or if this will help, but...
I had the same thing happen to me this past summer. I'd been out running with it one day, and it MAY have gotten a little wet inside. I can't imagine what else might have happened to it. The next day, it refused to turn on. I left the battery cover off for a while in the hope that it would dry out, but no luck. Putting in a new battery didn't help, and there is no reset feature on this player. I put in a request for return with iRiver but they took a loooong time (weeks) to get back to me. In the meantime, after much fiddling, I manged to get it to turn on; usually after removing the battery, replacing it and pressing the power button a bunch of time. However, it would only turn on every ten tries or so. After a couple of weeks of this, it spontaneously starting working again. The power button is a little picky still. You have to push it "just right", but I can get it to turn on with every attempt. When iRiver finally responded, I figured it was just easier to keep the player, since it was working. Kind of glad I did, as it's still working now 5 months later, but it was a bit of a gamble, I guess. Anyway, sorry for the long-winded reply, but my point is: don't give up on the player right away. While you're waiting for iRiver to get back to you, be persistent. Fiddle with it a bit and you might get lucky, too. |

What DancinBanana said. Funny this should come up, actually. I was hanging out with one of my friends a couple nights ago, and she was complaining that her ancient RCA Lyra refused to turn on. I remembered seeing this thread, so the first thing I checked were the battery contacts. They were clean, and there was no choice but to do the only logical thing: keep taking the batteries out and putting them back in and pressing random buttons. I unexpectedly revived the Lyra this way. I guess I'm a DAP whisperer, or something. Sometimes it's the really stupid simple stuff that does the trick. Hope you get the 799 working again.

Hi Guys, I hope you didn't give up on this topic, but it's been almost 2 years that I own the iFP-799 and it suddenly stopped working a few months ago. I contacted iRiver via their website but it seems that this is useless...and I just stumbled on this thread...and thought of posting on it. Did you find a solution to the problem? or should I just forget about it and dump it in garbage? Cheers, zfreddyzzz |

I opened my iFP790 and found that the solder joints for the switches were broken from the stress over the approx. 2 years I've had it. I tried resoldering, but it appears that each switch has a pin under the display module that I could not get to.

This just happened to my iFP190 after four and a half years of faithful service. I was at the gym listening to it last night, turned it off when my workout was over and suddenly can't get it to turn on.
I've tried replacing the battery, checking the contacts, pressing the buttons all sorts of different ways, etc., but nothing works. The power button seems to have slightly less "push back" when I press it compared to the other buttons, so maybe something finally gave way underneath. Anyway, I'll keep trying, but it feels like the end of an era. I've certainly gotten a hell of a lot of use out of this player. |
