How can I move files onto my PC from my ifp795?
As the topic says.
I'm thinking about changing the firmware to a UMS-virsion to let it work as a hard disc, but I've stored some good music in it, and now I have the problem of moving the music onto my PC,then what can I do for this?

IMM version simply doesn't allow transfer of music files to the PC, except ".REC" files. Nor will it allow you to rename files to ".REC" either, so you're stuck! If you have access to a PC running Linux, there is a Linux-clone version of the IMM software called ifp-gui which does allow transfers back to the PC with IMM firmware. It's not "official" software however. I'm surprised no-one has hacked the official IMM software to remove this limitation.

I believe also that early versions of IMM didn't prohibit file renaming, though I've never used such versions so I can't confirm it. I also don't know where you could get hold of them.

I don't have access to a PC running Linux does it means the "ifp-gui" can work in a PC running Linux only?according to what you said,I wonder if this could work:renaming a audio file to "*.REC" in my PC before I transfer it to the ifp?I'll have a try

but if you're trying to get music off of the player, how would that help?

best thing you could do would be to record the files using another player or something...

That's right,all i've done proves to be a failure,maybe i should record the files using another player,though it's not a convenient method i'm confused a lot--why does iriver have to do so while it should be an inconvenience for users?or is it a measure they take to protect copyrights?but there's little sense since i've got the files.emm...sometime s copyrights is not a good thing...

Yes it's damned annoying of iRiver and pretty pointless. Anyone who wants to "steal" files from one PC to another will just use a CD instead. Or UMS firmware, which does allow transfer both ways and without even having to install any software!

Ifp-gui does indeed only run on a Linux-based PC. It's the only way to get these files off your player in digital form. Nothing prevents you from recording the iRiver's output but you'd lose quality.

You're stuck between a rock and a hard place, I'm afraid.

Good news!
Now there is an easy way to move MP3 files back to the PC (using non UMS firmware!).
I just tried it and it works.
