HELP! Firmware grief FILE CHECK ERROR
Alright, I've been 'rasslin' with my iHP-390T for like a week now. I'm very new to digital music, and was pretty comfortable with loading the 390T using the old IMM, but I upgraded to the new version and wasn't really comfortable with it, soooooooo, I tried to upgrade to the UMS version, but I had a bunch of problems with that, so I attempted to go back to manager version 2.10, now everything I do in the IMM is greeted with "insufficient space", and the screen on the player always powers on with FILE CHECK ERROR. I'm frustrated, pissed and stumped. ANY help would be appreciated.

I thought you were gonna stick with the UMS version a while longer Uncle B
When you changed back to the IMM formware, did the firmware upgrade proceed OK (ie the player churned away for a while then reset/reformatted itself?), or did your "FILE CHECK ERROR" occur before this? Is it possible to communicate with the player via your Manager software (in which case you might be able to manually format or revive it)? Good luck, I hope you don't have to return your toy!

Alright lets fix this bugger. I would see if MS Explorer can open the player. If so delete the files remaining inside....they are going by-by anyway when you format the flash which is what needs to be done.
If that is not possible let us know and we will go to plan "B". If you can communicate with the player with either the IMM or W.E. let us know also. One way or another we will beat this into submission. fear not! sdz

Hey thanks for the help, as always, these forums are the place to go for useful help and info. Here's the deal: I successfully dowloaded the 2.06 firmware, manager version, after reading many user comments that it seems pretty bug free. My screen now says NO FILE, which I figure means the player is just ready for some tunes. I don't know what was wrong earlier, I'm hoping things go smoothly. I have all WMA files that I transfer from my iHP-120 to the iFP-390T as needed, it seemed pretty easy with the previous IMM version, but now, I'm a little less efficient with drag-and-drop, etc. I know it's supposed to be easier, but I'm kind of new to the whole computer music world, and I'm ending up with album art, and tracks out of order, etc. Any tips would be appreciated. Back to the iFP-390T. Thanks

Hey Y'all thanks so much for everyone's help. I just ate up my 256mb (or so) in no time doing some serious drag-and-drop in the new IMM. It worked great! Here's a(nother) question: when I make folders on my player, what is the best way to name them, I usually load whole albums for each respective artist in a folder for each artist. Is there a better or more efficient way, one that gives me more on-screen info (such as album title) or would I be better naming the folders the album name (as the song and artist scrolls below)? Thanks again for evryone's help. B

Glad to hear you're back on track UB! I personally organise the folder and files on my 390 as:
Artist > Album > 01.mp3, 02.mp3, 03.mp3 etc. The ID3 tag for each song is then organised artist - song I name the files 01, 02 (track order on the CD) so that they are transferred to the player and are played back in that order. Some people label their tracks 01- name of song 1.mp3, 02 - name of song 2.mp3 etc, whic accomplished the same thing, but allows you to see then name of the song when scrolling through directories (whereas my scheme only allows you to see the song name when it's actually playing). Just experiment to find the scheme that best suits you, and remember to have fun!
