File check Error

Dear All,

I m a happy (was), owner of an ifp 390t .
Yesterday I decide to download the new firmware and software for upgrade.
Everything was OK till the time I start to transfer files from PC to IFP.
No sufficient memory was the message from the program and 0 bites free on the bottom indicator.
FILE CHECK ERROR display on my iRIVER LCD display. No recording is available when I try to record.
I tried several times to format but 'Cannot format the ifp player' displayed message.
I will appreciate any help on my problem.

Thank you very much.

Ouch, doesn't sound promising nkouf!

Before I can offer you much advice, we need to clear a couple of things up - you haven't really provided much information to go on .

1 - Are you using UMS or Manager Firmware?
2 - Did you upgrade the firmware via the Manager software, or by manually downloading the formware executable and upgrading it using the iFP?
3 - What version of the firmware did you attempt to upgrade to?
4 - Did you actually get as far as upgrading the firmware, or did the file transfer fail when attempting to download the firmware?

When you do a firmware upgrade the iFP chugs away for a minute of two, then resets and formats itself. After that, it may need to be formatted (if using UMS firmware). Did you get this far with yours?

This happened to me once as well. You need to delete a few tracks first to make room for the firmware. Then attempt the firmware upgrade.

Dear tristan

Thank you for your answer,
I am using Manager Firmware and upgrade via the Manager software, I attempt to upgrade to 1.10.

Yes I went thru the end, the ifp switched off and I switched again on to transfer the pm3 files.
I notice in the free space indicator 899 mb free and I was wonder why not 256 mb. No fail happen during the processes.
Now I can change the firmware, no copy or delete anything due to no memory available in the ifp.
Any hardware reset with the buttons?

Dear stz,

There is no file to delete I tried several times, that’s my problem there is no memory available to change anything.
Maybe a hardware reset with the buttons solve the problem, any idea?

Thanks again

nkouf

it sounds to me that you need to format the flash memory. Go here and follow the directions to format. Forget the part about installing the firmware since you have already done that. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE UMS firmware.

let us know how you make out.

Dear sdz,

Thanks for the answer, I am using the Manager firmware not the UMS firmware. There is no way to format and there is not
Firmware upgrade menu under General.

Thanks

Sounds like trouble to me. Since the player is now unusable I would go ahead with the format proceedure outlined above even though it is for UMS. I would then load in the UMS firmware by cut and paste windows ecplorer. See if the player will take the UMS firmware.

If you use windows explorer and not IMM can you delete files in the player?

If you can do that I would first install the USM firmware.

Should nothing work then you have no choice except the send the player back to iRiver....email them them since telephone does not seem like the best way to get in touch.
