Player displays "FILE CHECK ERROR"

I have an iFP-390T that I've had for a while, I've broke it several times but been able to repair it, but now I'm having what seems to be a software problem...

One day I was just listening to my player and it suddenly stopped playing, it says "FILE CHECK ERROR" on the display, and nothing else apart from the battery indicator, which is shown as full. The player is recognised on the Manager but it shows no files, and I've tried formatting using the Manager, which had no effect. I also tried changing the firmware incase that fixed it, but it just says "An item IFP-3XXT cannot be copied, the memory is full". Can anyone help? It just seems like some kind of software thing that can be fixed? I even tried leaving it for a few days then using it again (hey, it's worked before) but no luck... can this be fixed or should I just start saving for a new player?
