Is the iFP USB cable just a standard USB to mini USB cable?

I remember this being raised at the iRiver zoo (pre script/css kiddie days!), and a flamewar resulting.

I've successfully used my iFP cable to transfer pix off my Canon Powershot, but even so, I am not game to try the reverse of using the Canon's cable to connect the iFP to the computer in case I fry either the computer or the iFP.

Has anyone had any experience of using a generic USB to mini cable to connect their iFP? I'm pretty sure I'll lose mine at some stage (cables are like pens and keys with me, they disappear into some other dimension never to be seen again).

The odds of frying the ifp are very remote since the working voltage is so darn low. worst that could happen is the data won't transfer.

Its worth a try in a pinch.

Took the plunge and connected the iFP390T using a generic USB to mini cable - everything is fine (phew).

So there you go people, if you lose your cable, any generic cable should do the job.

I think you might be onto something gdog! A conspiracy theory so plausible, I wonder why there was never an X-files episode about it.
