Playlist or Something? ....

I just bought a iRiver 799 and updated it with the latest firmware mod from the forum. I don't have the iRiver Music Manager installed on my PC. Everything works great. I can just drag my music folders into the iRiver player and listen to the music on the player with no problem except .... that the player doesn't always play the music in the track order that the files are written. I read the FAQ about this. Is the only solution to install the Music Manager program? I would rather not. My tracks are named with a number first (01, 02 etc.) and they are all properly tagged. Is there a trick, a playlist or something, I can use so that the music will play on the 799 in the track order I want it to without using the Music Manager? I have several DJ Mix CDs, where the music tracks need to be played in the right order.

Thanks.

I think you'll find that the player plays the files in the order that they are transferred onto it. Windoze seems to have a bug, however, so it doesn't always transfer files in the order they appear in a directory listing. A work-around that sometimes works (usually, in fact) is not to drag a folder across. Instead, create a folder on the player, then select all the files you want and drag them across to the new folder. Windoze seems to get this right!

Thanks Wulfrun

Yes, I was just dragging the music folders from Windows to the iRiver player thinking the music would play in the right order since each track was numbered but it didn't always work. I tried your method instead and it works fine! The numbered tracks now play in the right order, and my DJ Mixes sound great!

Thanks Wulfrun, again for the tip!
