Does Ogg eat your batteries more?

We all know that ogg vorbis is tough on ihp batteries but does it impact flash players as much? Maybe not since HDD spooling does not occure in flash players.

Can any ifp users comment on their experiences using ogg? Does it reduce battery life if so how much.....please let us know what "q" setting you are using.

thanks

sdz

I tried ogg firmware (ifp380t) when it came out (just for testing) and I noticed a considerable battery life reduction (q2 and q3). I can't tell you any details (I did not make any proper test, but at least a 30 or 40% less) I'm not using it anymore.

I didn't even bother measuring how long a set of cells lasts using Ogg files.

All i can remember is, when i was using an 390 fairly regularly around the time of the firmware release, one set of 750maH Ni-Cad AA's (a set of 4) lasted me around a week (shock, horror... that's a month of walkman running time before mp3 came along).

After i started Ogging, in principle, i was luck to scrap a week out that set of cells - more like 3 days. I ended up having to nick the 1800maH stuff out of the JB1 to keep up with the need for cells.

Excessive consumption .. kinda reminds of the old joke about the american filling up his Caddy at the fuel pump ... where the car could chew fuel quick than it was put in the tank if the engine was left running :P

Cool result .. about as cool as a snowball that got exiled to Hell...

or the one about the Brit fueling his Bentley, where the tank would never fill...even if the engine was off....or the Italian with the Ferrari, could pass everything on the road but a gas station... :P

Yep.. those are the classics...

Maybe we'll be adding iFP power consumption to list next..

Or how about :-

One day they'll build some super codec player that's got massive storage, but the battery wont last long enough to fill it up with music..?? :P
